It’s #mosaicmonday! Here’s a lovely well-preserved cable pattern from a floor in #Halicarnassus (modern Bodrum, Turkey) dating to 4thC AD. This geometric design alternated with figured panels on the mosaic floor of a large room. Now in the British Museum.

#Roman relief from #Halicarnassus showing 2 female #gladiators, Amazon & Achillia. They have the same kit as a male gladiator, except for helmets. Women are known to have been gladiators - usually with societal scorn - but were completely banned in AD200 by #SeptimiusSeverus

It’s #mosaicmonday! Here’s a lovely well-preserved cable pattern from a floor in #Halicarnassus (modern Bodrum, Turkey) dating to 4thC AD. This geometric design alternated with figured panels on the mosaic floor of a large room. Now in the British Museum.
