Smithsonian archaeologists excavated these #ObjectsOfWonder from Pueblo Bonito in Chaco Canyon, NM in the 1920s. It wasn’t until nearly a century later that chemical analysis of the residue inside the cylinders revealed their former contents: these vessels once held chocolate.
No need for dye, these colors are au naturale. Each species of tinamou—a nearly flightless bird from South and Central America—lays a different color of glossy egg. Males build the nest and incubate the eggs, while females nest-hop, laying eggs in multiple nests. #ObjectsOfWonder
