Important to discern difference between #cognitivebias in this scenario and #pretestprobability. An very unexpected result is inherently less likely to be accurate - important difference.
In our cases, we did not even attempt to define the "normative" or correct individual probabilities. I made the #pulmonarynodule case using a calculator so #pretestprobability was 80%; sensitivity of transthoracicneedlebiopsy is ~90%. So the "normative answer is ~72% (blue dots)
In general, I don't think we do ACE anymore...neither sensitive nor specific, doesn't correlate with activity. Plus, there're #granulomas, the #PreTestProbability is such that a negative is irrelevant (it's not specific to sarcoid). Stains for sure (I literally just got them...)
The actual “scans” offered include blood tests, photometry and a bunch of other investigational modalities. The question remains - but why? Your GP for much less can provide the necessary tests without causing extra stress for incidentalomas #pretestprobability

A great summary. #fluidresponsiveness has taken on a life of it's own and I'm not sure the principle can be reliably applied to the benefit of patients. An #AUROC presumes a #pretestprobability - where does that come from? And is it alone sufficient to guide decisions?

If we got all the data, I'm betting clinical PTP of #COVID is high. Not sure serial testing is reassuring because the conditional independence assumption probably doesn't hold on account of sampling/specimen handling errors #pretestprobability
