Rich good info, 100% true. Bernstein had it back in the 30s. "Sport mvmnt is as complex as the human being himself" Each affordance is perceived-broken down-solutions found-acted upon differently by each person/ATH individually/authentically. Is no 1 size fits all. #RepWithoutRep
Wish more realized this about all sports...but if players prepared like this for football, guys would reach full potential #RepWithoutRep
7am and a wide open field to work with on this Good Friday with 1 of the very best in the game doing it @EversonGriffen ready to go sharpen the movement skill sword! Blessed to do what we do! #Repwithoutrep

Learning the skill of accuracy (any skill) requires much more than physical patterning. ‘Mechanics’ are not the answer to consistent task performance. #ConstraintLedApproach #RepWithoutRep
Why pitching command isnt affected by specific ‘throwing mechanics’ #RepWithoutRep #ConstraintLedApproach #TaskOrientation Part 1
If you have yet to check out the wonderful series on the work of Nikolai Bernstein by my friend @ShakeyWaits, I would highly implore you to do so. #repwithoutrep perceptionaction.com/95-2/
In skill acquisitin realm, the term degeneracy refers to what we can understand as completing explicit tasks, consistently, in an abundance of ways and / or environments. Lets stop blaming specific ‘mechanics’ for lack of skill. #RepWithoutRep #ConstraintLedApproach #Tasking
It’s deload week, so we played around with some rep w/o rep on the squat today. 45% on the bar, change stance every rep for 5 reps. Nothing but positive feedback thus far. #repwithoutrep instagram.com/p/BzGRDEDH70H/…
Flexibility of skilled behavior in dynamic sports is based on the athlete‘s ability to move between multiple co-existing [metastable] states of movement organization (Pinder et al., 2012) 🎯Train GKs to move flexibly in metastable regions- eg react↔️collapse↔️dive #repwithoutrep
.@carvperformance you already know where I'm going with this lol...Bernstein holds the real magical key for athletes... #RepWithoutRep
An idea that my players & I live by! #RepWithoutRep
“Creativity can never emerge if movement variability is suppressed … it emerges through exploration of many solutions - not the repetition of one ‘ideal solution’” - @ShakeyWaits mcmillanspeed.com/2018/03/super-…
PSA: using an agility ladder for "footwork" is only marginally less stupid. As @GorillaMyscles would say #RepWithoutRep
PSA: Using a real ladder to perform footwork ladder drills is slightly dangerous.

Understanding throwing mechanics is important, but there is no such thing as perfect or repeatable under enough scrutiny. Understand your mechanics, but chasing perfect of repeatable is absolutely chasing the wind. Chase repeatable result above all else.
The starting line toward acquiring skill, is unconscious movement, coupled by an explicit, contextualized, task goal. Yet we have so many focusing on precise physical movement, to become more skilled... #ConstraintLed #RepWithoutRep
Consistency. Execute desired outcome. No one is exact. #repwithoutrep
Kyle Hendricks, 79mph Changeup (swing/miss) and 79mph Changeup (swinging K), Overlay Back to Back pitches...not the same pitch.
Secondly, if I wanted to have elite command in a variety of ways the only one stopping me would be someone suggesting I couldnt. I air on the side of movement tasks. Why are we moving. Why are mechanics occurring. Simplicity is key for command. Clear goal. #RepwithoutRep
You’re point is valid. Trying to move repetitively or be consistent isnt the same as ‘these particular patterns improve command’ Mechanics in and of themselves are not responsible for the consistency of the task. #RepWithoutRep
Repeat movement well or repeat results well? You can consistently repeat tasks, certainly without data . While being & feeling repetitive is good, a rep without rep approach is best when becoming a proficiently skilled mover. #RepWithoutRep #ConstraintLedApproach

If anyone is interested in the role of ‘throwing mechanics’ & / or the variability / ‘specific positioning’ of them affecting consistency of pitching command or location, I high recommend listening to @ShakeyWaits podcast perceptionaction.com/156-2/ #RepWithoutRep #SkillAquisition

Potentially... But if I opted to consistently throw strikes in 10 different ways, on 10 consecutive attempts, telling me my ‘throwing mechanics’ will prevent they is a little ignorant of how our attention and focus work on distinct tasks. #RepWithoutRep

Limiting the role of conscious movement (mechanics) is critical to the attention, focus, and coordination to become proficiently accurate. We will not perfectly repeat our mechanics identically 10 times out of 10, however we can consistently repeat outcomes. #Task #RepWithoutRep

You can execute 10/10 consistent outcomes with 10/10 inconsistent ways. Once you can strongly identify your why, the way is a formality. This is the foundation of command development. Outcomes > mechanics #RepWithoutRep
