Great talk by @powersoffour on open source community building, structured as an interactive storytelling game #SciPy2019
So much of when I've been most burned out was my feeling like my work wasn't having impact. Tell people when their work matters to you. (Slide from @WillingCarol's #SciPy2019 keynote)
I am getting ready for my Complexity Science tutorial at #SciPy2019. If you are planning to attend, the setup instructions are here: allendowney.github.io/ComplexityScie… Please try them out and let me know if you run into any problems. Complexity Science people: can you name this model?

I am giving a talk at #SciPy2019 later this morning, talking about computational statistics and generational changes in support for gun control (Zlotnik Ballroom at 10:20) Links to my slides and my tutorials are in this blog post: allendowney.com/blog/2019/07/1…
💜💜 #scipy2019 was so much fun! I had the best time with new and old friends, hacking on @ProjectJupyter and having super interesting talks with folks. Thank you all for making it super special
I don't know how to feel about this (other than the 😮): an interactive FORTRAN compiler in the notebook demonstrated at #SciPy2019

Man I love SciPy. At dinner tonight, while catching up with people I was lucky enough to meet at #SciPy2019, I was introduced to @ianhi7919...only to realize that we've already tag teamed some PRs in the past together without communicating outside of GitHub. That's magic.

As a follow-up I would highlight two talks. In the first, at #Scipy2019, @ralfgommers mentions the challenges funding brought to the @numpy_team: youtube.com/watch?v=dBTJD_… And now, at #SciPy2020 @melissawm gave a talk about the absolutely amazing work they done this year (link tbd)

I don’t think that anyone could see it due to the camera angle on my laptop, but I was wearing my beloved #SciPy2019 shirt while giving the Q&A session for #pyhf today at #SciPy2020. Such wonderful memories from my first SciPy!
At #SciPy2019 we held a "Funding FOSS" meeting, and we had similar ones at #EOSSmtg where I was happy to see progress on many fronts. Reps from Wellcome Trust and NIH understood the gap EOSS fills and plan to fill it. I hope @nhmrc and @arc_gov_au are listening!
Hey @jendarra! Thinking of your excellent #SciPy2019 lighting talk & how we had discussed how it could become a full-length talk in 2020. Let me know if you'd like to brainstorm or if I can help any other day!
👏👏👏@jendarra's #SciPy2019 #lightningtalk on the horror of the #biased #wordembeddings that many use for their #sentimentclassifiers meaning the #classifier mirrors the #racism in our society. Ew😒 Avoid this! #Measure #bias, be aware & adjust🙌 #NLP blog.conceptnet.io/posts/2017/how…

I *don't* believe you've made enough of an effort to reach out to the @condaforge core team, because they *are* extremely welcoming and open. For example, did you ask your cofounder @math_rachel to go to the publicly announced conda-forge birds-of-a-feather session at #SciPy2019?
Cool company: @Aquaveo (aquaveo.com) water resource management company run by my friend. Has made many modeling resources #opensource on @github. They have clients all over the world. They were also at #SciPy2019 in July. Great #Python shop. github.com/Aquaveo
So glad you enjoyed the #SciPy2019 keynotes. The 3rd keynote by @math_rachel is definitely worth watching too!
I’m keeping going with @scipyconf keynotes! So excited to listen to @WillingCarol on @ProjectJupyter: Always open for learning and discovery. youtu.be/s-W-UvGgDco
Very timely to listen to @chendaniely on @TalkPython this week. He sat with me over lunch one day at #scipy2019 and prepped me for teaching data science this year. Tomorrow, I’m starting Jupyter notebooks with my 7th & 8th grade #computerscience classes.
