I really like the #weymouthpavilion building. Opened in 1960 it's a great example of midcentury playfulness in seaside design. Lovely interplay of materials and colour, though sadly the original shell mermaid decoration is now covered up #seasidearchitecture
In the Regency period decorative #ironwork and fancy verandahs gave an extra playfulness and appeal to seafront houses. #seasidearchitecture #Sidmouth #Hastings #HouseHistoryHour

Trying to condense the history of 1920s #seasidearchitecture into 5000 words is tricky, particularly when it's not really been covered in full elsewhere. I want to include everything but here are a few places that will definitely be in my next book
Gave a talk last night about #seasidearchitecture and upon showing a slide of the #MidlandHotel at #Morecambe a man in the front row piped up and said its architect, Oliver Hill, was his great-uncle! I love meeting descendants of people I've studied 😊
Does anyone know what happened to this building at #Cleveleys? I'm writing about #1930s #seasidearchitecture and want to look beyond the usual suspects. The Queen's caught my eye but I haven't found the date of its construction yet...

A lot of #seasidearchitecture during the 1920s was classical in style and simple Tuscan columns were a key feature, particularly of shelters like these at #Blackpool. With 3 levels, the North Shore Promenade dates from the beginning of the decade #c20seasidearchitecture
