Psychosocial Risk Management 101: relying on workers chewing a sultana mindfully, doing yoga, or weaving baskets is a good way to get a PCBU and yourself prosecuted for #negligence. PCBUs HIRE FOR vulnerabilities. Fix work. Fix the workplace. #SMARTworkdesign #WHS @SafetyOz

I was asked by the Chair of a very large public hospital service - how can we improve the resilience of staff that are burning out? The staff are not the problem, I said.



We need to focus on drivers of poor and positive #mentalhealth - including work, and workplaces. We need to prevent psychological harm through eliminating #psychosocial hazards such as overwork, precarious work, poorly managed org change, + bullying & harassment #SMARTWorkDesign

Today in ED, I turned away a man who had congestive heart failure. Could walk a little, didn't need high oxygen, distressed but wasn't going to die imminently, and sicker people could use the bed. Now replace that with schizophrenia; that's what we do every day in #mentalhealth.



Hire the right people, agree on a performance beacon and some loose sandbox parameters, and be readily avail for guidance and support. Then get the heck out of their way. #SMARTworkdesign #Agency #Relational #psychosocialrisk
