#OnThisDay 1799 the Royal Institution @Ri_Science was founded. Happy birthday! Reminds me of my happy (& stressful) days doing the BBC RI #XmasLectures in 2016 on the theme of energy - where we gained a Guinness World Record for the highest voltage lemon battery.
At Christmas I contributed to the @Ri_Science #XmasLectures (running since 1825!) The lectures is now on BBC iPlayer (within the UK): bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episod… Or Youtube (outside of the UK): youtube.com/watch?v=l0gZAl…
#OnThisDay 1791 - one of my scientific heroes Michael Faraday was born. He came from a humble background to become Professor at @Ri_Science & Fellow of @royalsociety, making major scientific contributions especially on electromagnetism. Also founded the famous RI #xmaslectures.
Have you heard that #OperationOuch superscientist @DoctorChrisVT is presenting this year's @Ri_Science's #Xmaslectures? We've got a chance to interview him – let us know what questions your kids would love to ask him about food and digestion ⬇️ 📸 © Paul Wilkinson Photography
Thanks to the Spitalfields City Farm on getting one of the best guests on the Christmas Lectures today lol #XmasLectures
At the lovely Royal Institution @Ri_Science & its cafe. Flattered & honoured to see this photo displayed from my BBC RI #XmasLectures. Like Michael Faraday, I was talking about the chemistry & energy of a candle. But not four candles! (Photo @PWilkinsonPhoto)
To understand food, one could always search on this platform as well, mind be careful what content creators you choose #XmasLectures
Born #OnThisDay 1934: Carl Sagan - the American planetary scientist & communicator, astrophysicist, humanist & author. He's been one of my scientific heroes ever since I watched his BBC @Ri_Science #XmasLectures in 1977 titled 'The Planets'. #RealTimeChem
