Ala' al-Din employed Hindus and Jains to important positions. Thakkur Pherū, a Jain, held a high position in his mint, where he authored a number of #Apabhramsa works on #coin alloys ("billons"), #gemmology, and mathematics. He served the #Tughlag court, too. (See SR Sarma)

Some observations from reading "#Sandeśarāsaka" an #Apabhraṃśa poem. some reflexes stood out, noted here with modern lang. 1 sn. pronoun is haum, and pronominal suffix -mi: तग्गामि (taggāmi) - to go on, I मरमि (marami) – to die, I, present in #Sindhi, #Lahnda, #Dogri etc.

Mahārājādhirāja Bhojarāja (of Paramāra clan of Rajputs) in his work observed: ▪️#Prākṛta and #Apabhraṃśa are naturally sweet & fitting [प्रकृतिमधुराः प्राकृतधुराः सुभव्योऽपभ्रंशः]. ▪️#Saṃskṛta as language of Devtas [देवाद्याः संस्कृतं प्राहुः].

I think #BreakUpLines trend is the अपभ्रंश of #LineBreak introduced by Twitter #Apabhraṃśa @SatanBhagat

JPS even composed a hymn using #Persian vocabulary, grafted onto #Apabhramsa grammar. In it, he equates Allah and Rishabha, the first #Jina of our age. Allāllāhi turā ham kīmvaru sahiyānu tum marā khvāmd/ Dunīya kas medānaï busmāraï budh cirā nahyam//

āp आप of Hindi/Urdu comes from #Sanskrit ātman (self) through #Prakrit appā & later #Apabhramsa appaṇ [आत्मन् ➡️ अप्पा ➡️ अप्पण]. And not only Hindi/Urdu, even Bengali: আপনি (apni), Marathi: आपण (āpaṇ); Assamese: আপুনি (apuni) are derived from the same source.

That heart stopping moment I realised, the rare #Sanskrit / #Apabhramsa trans. manuscripts I was looking for, r available at @Library_Vic !
