We found that de‐implementation trials were mainly conducted in primary care & typically aimed to reduce low‐value drug treatments 4/8 #deimplementation #EBM

1️⃣ We identified 227 trials: 44% conducted in North America, 33% in Europe 2️⃣ Trials were published between 1982 -2021; half published in 2010 or earlier, other half 2011 or later 5/8 #deimplementation #EBM

⭐️ Studies were conducted in: 1️⃣ Family medicine/general practice (68%) 2️⃣ Internal medicine (8%) 3️⃣ Emergency medicine (8%) 4️⃣ Pediatrics (6%) ⭐️ The de-implementation intervention was targeted at physicians in 193 trials (85%) 6/8 #deimplementation #EBM

What did we do? We performed a systematic scoping review: to identify and synthesize randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on de‐implementation interventions and to provide guidance to improve future research 3/8 #deimplementation #EBM

Trials could be improved by favoring simpler intervention designs, better control of confounders, larger number of clusters in cluster RCTs, better tailoring, and using a theoretical basis in intervention design 7/8 #deimplementation #EBM
