The exploration of the Gubbio fragments continues thanks to the efforts of @Laurarogari_, who sent me a photo of this spectacular fragment (Vulgate, First Book of Maccabees 1:1-27, possibly s. X). @FragmentariumMS #fragmentfriday #fragmentology
The librarian in me always gets excited when when I find #manuscript "waste" used in book bindings - while the medievalist in me always gets their heart broken at this sight of it. This one is in a volume of Persius' satires form 1578 (shelfmark: Lambda.4.5). #FragmentFriday
Luckily not all is lost ๐ This stunning 15th-century manuscript of Justinian's Codex was once deemed superfluous and used as a pastedown in the binding of another book. This way it has survived and still dazzles the beholder today. #FragmentofthDay #FragmentFriday

Despite working with old materials, I always spot something new every day - like this lovely print woodcut initial โTโ recycled and pasted onto the spine of another book! Woodcut initials were highly collectible in the 18th/19thc. ๐ #fragmentology #fragmentFriday
i would really like to know WHO was binding copies of George Sitwell's 1933 "Tales of my Native Village" in copies of Italian antiphoner pages, how many copies they did (at least 5) and why this book.... #fragmentfriday

Manuscripts within manuscripts! This #chant book (assembled from disparate chant sections) at @McGill_Rare is repaired with a page containing canticles for Lauds--which seem comically small by comparison. #fragmentfriday
