This semester, I’m teaching #MTH1W for the 2nd time. It’s the 1st time I’ve given students freedom in note-taking and focusing on meaningful notes. I believe my students know more because less time is being spent as a robot, and more time is being spent learning & growing.

Then we took #meaningfulnotes. Two students needed additional support, so I actually worked with them separately but had what we were recording projecting on the screen while the class recorded their thinking. Small group + full class support? 🤷‍♀️

I try to model sketch notes if I write on the board, I have students write #meaningfulnotes @pgliljedahl, I remind students that math is visual @joboaler when they write their notes. Would love more strategies to teach #sketchnotes.

I neglect #meaningfulnotes consistently. So we divided into small groups and each was assigned a topic and sample problems for which to create a summary with tips for our future forgetful selves.

This year I added #meaningfulnotes to my #VNPS #thinkingclassroom norms. While we were discussing what we had learned about linear relationships yesterday, one of my students wrote this on her dry erase desktop. Pretty good job, if you ask me! 👏🖊📈
