I bought these ESP microcontrollers back in April and I haven’t done anything much with them apart from writing some codes, scanning & connecting to the internet. Now I think it’s time to put them to use by building actual hardware with them. I’m thinking drones and consoles.

I just got a Z8671 - a Z8 (somewhat related to Z80 but not hard- or software compatible) microcontroller with a bit of built-in RAM and a BASIC interpreter in internal ROM. All it needs is a crystal, 5volts and a terminal (or FTDI adapter) and you can code BASIC applications.

LED control is so much more fun when you have an FPGA connected to your microcontroller. The ESP only has to worry about generating patterns, and a ~100 line Verilog design generates a perfect PWM control at the maximum speed your display can support.
