This is about building math community – The themes that steer this course have been woven into my practice by immersive communities such as @PROMYS_Program, #pcmiTLP, @PAMathTeachersO, @BU_Tweets, @Cornell.
I’m too lazy to find my notes now, but @dyong & @bowenkerins, isn’t this similar to the approach you took for quadratic equations in #PCMITLP?
We also chose to be there. My #HSmathresearch course behaves more like #pcmiTLP because students choose to take this elective. If I can share positive/playful experiences with my Algebra 1 students, I want them to get a taste too.
Remember how much fun we had playing with math ideas at #pcmiTLP? Many students really need help with this, not only to learn how to enjoy math, but also as a way to begin problem solving and innovating.
