What an honor to get the call from my alma mater @MITSloan to present on my new book #theskillcode to all alums. Would I consider it? Of course! Fun also to discover that alums from many @mit schools attend these talks - discussion will be top notch. mitsloan.mit.edu/events/2024-09…

Professionals are starting to review #TheSkillCode regularly now, and I appreciate every one. All grounded in deep knowledge of what it takes to progress in their work. Each teaches me something, and motivates me to learn more. Glad it resonated, John. Thanks for sharing.

1/8 Reading @ucsantabarbara Professor @mattbeane’s "The Skill Code" was a real eye-opener for me. 🧵

@mattbeane This is one of the thesis elements from your book #TheSkillCode

- executives are not focused on protégé/apprentice training programs -- they could be hiring all the Starbucks baristas, but no barista knows anything about manufacturing - training programs are not good quality, it's led by low-quality people - Tech & capital are in their own

Some moments take your breath away. Seeing #theskillcode on the "local authors" shelf at Godmothers (incredible new local bookshop) easily qualified - especially since I shared it with Kristen. Dedicating it to her was one of the easiest decisions I've made.

Wow, the @PostLive folks were quick on the draw with this soundbite! Here I share my views on the reskilling problem, given generative AI. @DanielleDigest then nails it: my take is... sensible, and a bit much! I'm challenging taken-for-granted views on skill. More: #theskillcode

.@mattbeane tells @DanielleDigest, "Failure is not an option and will occur unless we take aggressive action ... We are inadvertently sacrificing skill development, workforce learning in many, many cases ... We must take great directed action to try to solve that."

Like 5 or 6 others, @FastCompany excerpted #theskillcode, but they took a singular approach, obviously based on a *very* careful read. This stitches together the checklists in the book that distill decades of research on skill across over 13 disciplines: fastcompany.com/91164325/here-…

Tired: Education = skill. Wired: Work = skill. Inspired: #TheSkillCode = skill. This chart is about skill, which we mostly build as we collaborate with experts at work. Education sometimes supplies this, far too often does not.

So great to get your call and to learn you've been appreciating #theskillcode, @RealGeneKim! Really looking forward to engaging with the amazing ETLS community on the 23rd.

We're so excited about ETLS Connect, which is coming up on October 23. Here's a message from @RealGeneKim about our speakers, including @idangazit, @Steve_Yegge, @DynamicWebPaige, @jchyip, Clare Hawthorne, @mattbeane, Dr. Joe Davis, and more!

More than ever, workers, leaders, and organizations need to learn. And that means L&D is now mission critical for organizations. I was grateful for @bigthink's invitation to write about this, nicely timed with the launch of my new book, #TheSkillCode. bigthink.com/business/why-l…

Why L&D teams are mission critical to AI adoption

Generative AI is arriving fast — both overtly and covertly — and without solid L&D guidance it's going to get very messy, argues Matt Beane.

Reid, I've been grateful for our connection and your creative, thoughtful support for years now, and your endorsement of #TheSkillCode means the world. I trust your good word will help us all use intelligent technologies to craft a brighter future for human ability. Onward!

Well I'll be damned. Out of nowhere, the @WSJ posts a review of #theskillcode. And... it's great. Concise, thoughtful, and focused on a critical component of skill building that we often needlessly sacrifice on the altar of productivity: human connection. wsj.com/business/entre…
