Hurricanes have added challenges to the #UCFTurtleLab’s late-season work, but extra surveys & nests marked for Yr 2 #SeaTurtleGrantsProgram award (funded by #SeaTurtleLicensePlate) have helped better assess nest loss from storms + viability & incubation of late-season nests.

It seems unreal that Doc is gone. I had the honor & pleasure to have worked with him in the #UCFTurtleLab since 2015. Although retired, Doc remained a key netting crew member through our last pre-COVID lagoon trip. His passion, knowledge, wit, & stories will be greatly missed 🌻

2/7 The #UCFTurtleLab has been monitoring sea turtles in 21 km of the #ArchieCarrNWR since the early 1980s. Loggerhead nest counts have been fairly consistent over time, while green turtle nests have increased.

The #UCFTurtleLab was on the water today for what looked like it was going to be a magnificent day sampling #IndianRiverLagoon #seaturtles. Calm waters, #greenturtles popping up all around our boats... 📸: E Seney.
