I am pleased to be able to share that NEH has funded a proposal to work on an edition of Aristotle's Poetics in Greek, Arabic and Latin.

Grateful to all who support humanistic inquiry — with their donations, tax dollars, words, actions, and other in-kind contributions!

It’s the unhistorical opinions that annoy me.
What’s a historical opinion that other people have that annoys you?

I was so proud of my fearless students who starred in the debut of this intensive, Maymester course — few of whom had any previous dramatic experience. I'm also grateful to @UNCSummerSchool for this feature.
What do ancient Roman comedies and modern-day sketch performances have in common? At UNC, it’s CLAS 231: The Theater in the Greek and Roman World. From improvisation to satire, from myth to mask, this is what happens when the past meets performance at Carolina.

Versūs memoriālēs. Mnemonic Lines. Dactylic lines which, when memorized, help remember lists of names, vocabulary, also grammatical features. Poetic meter is primarily a vehicle for memory! It wants to be your friend. 🎈🧸 📖 J. Siebelis: Tirocinium poeticum, 20th ed., 1916.

Hey #ClassicsTwitter, this ad came up in my feed —a product of all my searches for Greek/Roman sport images I have mixed feelings quoting/reposting a paid post like this, but there's a classical reception paper (conference?) to be made about this!

I tried the experiment of asking AI for a website of the Catalog of Ships two years ago & it sort of worked, with a lot of little hiccups Now, I just gave Manus a screenshot of this tweet and prompt "do this project" and it did the research and I got a working website, one shot
Digital humanities is about to be wild. I pasted in the Catalog of Ships from the Iliad, and asked GPT with Code Interpreter to map the origins of the Greeks. With hiccups, it extracted solid information from the text, found modern locations & started building an interactive map

Homer Spring 2025 is well underway! UNC Classicist Ashley Watkins led a great discussion at Epilogue Books on how Ovid reimagines Homer's Odyssey—giving Penelope a voice of her own and a pointed plea for Odysseus to return. More events + free books: tarheel.live/odyssey

Some have asked how to donate -- we actually have donations that we have kept for an emergency (such as now). I believe that URLs get penalized but this shows the form -- you write in Perseus under "Other." We really appreciate even the thought of giving!

DOGE terminated our current NEH grant with which we were developing Perseus6. Luckily, much of the work has been done. We should be able to get much, though not all, of the work that we had planned done. The backend is fairly solid and results should appear on the front end soon.
