We forget that the devaluation of social studies edu through the early 2000s in favor of tested subjects allowed for where we’re at today. Imagine if this country stepped up years ago and decided to embrace a curriculum that allowed for full participation of all its citizens.
I gave a small amount to this, because we needed help when Bel was diagnosed with kidney disease. So many others did too. It made a much bigger difference. Small acts can change the world!!
This is the amount of money my Instagram community just forgave in medical debt. 74,474 had their debt paid with no tax or credit consequences. #penniesintomiracles
Kids have already been through so much this year. The last thing they need is to take a stressful, ineffective standardized test. This is my personal belief and opinion! Sign the @NEAToday open letter to #CancelTheTests nea.org/advocating-for…
If we’re waiting forever the world to change, we’ll keep waiting. If we work for change, it will come. Perhaps slowly at first. But often the fastest way to get somewhere is simply to begin walking.

Please teach this in schools. Acreage does not vote. People do. This is how election results should be displayed.
Our schools can’t wait– we need the Senate to pass the next COVID-19 relief package now and include at least $175 billion for K-12 schools @RoyBlunt @hawleymo #FundEducation #DemandSafeSchools @nassp @moassp
Agreed! It would be good to see some of our reps actually vote to fund the education system during all of this.
Looming state budget shortfalls mean more assistance is needed for K-12 schools beyond what was provided in the CARES Act. @USRepLong please pass another stimulus package with at least $175 billion for K-12 schools. #DemandSafeSchools @nassp @moassp
Really enjoying the @sljournal Summit webinar session on Building Community for Connection & Learning! Thanks @AngelaCasteel1 for the opportunity!
Donations can be dropped off at the Wash House. There are two locations - one at Glenstone/Bennett and the other at S.Campbell/Walnut Lawn (behind Chipolte). You can also drop off at Study Alternative Center.
The SPS PTA Clothing Bank needs donations! Yesterday, we served over 252 families before running out of supplies. Please consider cleaning out closets & donating to families in need. Needs: clothes, household items, blankets/sheets. Huge need for elem.age clothing & winter items.
Wise words
Guide to upsetting election stories: 1. Wait before sharing. 2. People want to manipulate you. 3. What's the source? 4. Is it a news org with editors? 5. Looks big on Twitter, but is it just a local incident? 6. Repeat #1. Anything truly important will still be there in an hour.
This all of it. Staff are at their breaking points across the building I work in as they try to teach, parent, cope with the trauma of this year. We have an admin team that truly cares, but this is reality, best practices aren’t where we are at. It’s survival, Maslow‘s first.
As a principal, I’m supposed to be an “instructional leader.” But I told our teachers this week, that I don’t know how to do that in the middle of a pandemic. Right now is not the best time to talk about programs, plans, data points, and “best practices.” It is time to support.
This is a great thread of ideas for teachers looking for SEL ideas as they start school in whatever format that takes.

Great suggestion for getting to know students whether virtual, hybrid, or seated.

I’m sure many people have said this, but I haven’t seen anything about it. Why isn’t there a set of TV channels available nationwide by September that has school curriculum taught all day with simple scheduling? It would be more accessible than everyone needing a computer + wifi.
Don't attempt to persuade someone who answers "none" to the question: "What *evidence* would compel you to rethink your position?" Normalize asking this. 👥🔬📚📰📊📈
Correct and the board never in any meeting voted. The July 14 meeting was the first time I had heard or seen the draft. I did know about 70 people on 4 work groups but did not know who they were. Still only know their roles in the district and community.
The @officialSPS board did not vote on the re-entry plan in a public meeting. A draft of the plan was presented during the July 14 meeting and were able to ask questions. An altered re-entry plan was released July 23.
