BYU played in the first live college football game on ESPN in 1984, and ESPN has enjoyed having BYU in its late-night windows for decades, and ESPN gave BYU a TV deal during independence…but this graphic from ESPN is indefensible at best and antagonistic at worst.

Love the idea that the SEC will cancel marquee non-conference games if Texas gets “punished for scheduling Ohio State.” The same SEC that wins every hypothetical non-conference matchup is terrified of playing those games in real life. Because their “greatness” is fictional

Just for fun ahead of the CFB playoff rankings release: I looked at avg win + loss quality, as well as a resume rating I created that accounts for win + loss quality. This isn't as high on Texas Tech as the rankings, Miami is ahead of Notre Dame👀
The ESPN show is totally blowing off the big story. The College Football Playoff committee just gerrymandered its rankings by putting Notre Dame at 10 to assure five SEC teams are in the tournament.

Having BYU behind ND makes college football figure skating or gymnastics. You don’t even need to play the games. It’s so dumb. BYU plays in a power conference. Tougher schedule. They have less losses and better wins. Ruins the whole sport. #provodave #byuscrewed

BYU has better wins than Notre Dame, a tougher schedule than Notre dame, less losses than Notre Dame (and to a better team than anyone ND played), and they’re ranked behind Notre dame. The committee is ranking logos, not teams.
