What an amazing event that was! I remember it as one of the first to receive live coverage. I didn’t do anything else during those days except go through the games and reports. I still keep the newspaper clippings.

Happy 42nd birthday to former FIDE World Champion Ruslan Ponomariov! 🎂🎉 He became the youngest Grandmaster at the time at 14, and just four years later, conquered a 128-player knockout field—defeating compatriot Vassily Ivanchuk to claim the FIDE World Champion title…

BTW, Seneca never said that.
At 88, my dad just won a cup and a cash prize in a chess tourney! 🏆 Age really is just a number! And yeah, my son came 2nd, passing 2000 FIDE for the first time! What a day for the family! ♟️🔥

Manuel Álvarez Escudero (pictured here with @MarianoGD) turned 104 yesterday. Today he is competing in a chess tournament in Madrid.

I pitched, at higher levels. The expression, attitude of Valdez after the "cross up" is all U need to know. He meant it. If it was not intentional he would have paused, double looked, put up his hand (in apology), tipped his cap, or some signal. The expression and body…
There’s speculation that Astros pitcher Framber Valdez purposely crossed up his catcher Cesar Salazar and hit him with this pitch after Salazar told him to step off before allowing a grand slam
Do I look angry? I hope so, because I’ve been furious over the wealthy, powerful free world's cowardice and complacency since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2014. Western leaders still treat Ukrainian lives as less important than money, resulting in the waste of both.
If you are around 50, imagine beating the World Champion, a tactical and calculational genius of approximately Gukesh's age, 13-8 in a match, winning 10 games. That is what Botvinnik did to Tal. Never ceases to amaze me.
