When evaluating claims claims being made about AI, a really simple question you should keep in the back of your mind is: “is the person making these claims about AI literally trying to sell me or others AI?” A lot of the claims you hear about AI are really just advertisements.
“The humanities must be divorced from science.” No. Carl Sagan called it “unthinkable for an aspiring physicist not to know Plato, Aristotle, Bach, Shakespeare,” and STEM without the humanities has yielded a Silicon Valley that increasingly can’t read and has no conscience.
A Yale Professor says “it is the humanities that have sinned,” and so they should be separated from the sciences. “I am confident I can make my most persuasive case for a university of science, engineering, and medicine, if the humanities are not housed under my roof.”
