The #loancharge was punitively retroactive, and retrospective in its effect. Never should have happened. It's significantly undermined trust in the tax system, undermined certainty, and the rule of law. An independent inquiry is needed to understand how the policy process…

#RachelReeves : After the next Labour tax rises, will everyone be paying their fair share of tax? If not, then why not? Or, if they are, does that mean no future tax rises? #Budget2026

Polanski’s defence against the IFS is that the IFS are compromised. Oh dear. He’s just shown he is a #taxpopulist. No substance behind his ideas, and attacks those who have done their homework.

Victoria Derbyshire, "One of your policies that wouldn't hit most people is a wealth tax, 1% on those with £10m+" Zack Polanski, "Patriotic Millionaires say between £15-25 billion a year" Victoria Derbyshire, "Wealth taxes have happened in other countries.. Spain have raised…

Finally the #wealthtax populist campaign admits defeat. Great at making a noise, but dreadful at campaigning to make policy happen. It’s so obvious to seasoned campaigners (I am one), why they failed. They need to ready more about how policy is made - perhaps start with Kingdon…

Goodbye and Good Luck

Fabulous. Let’s see if we can attract more of these high earners to come and stay here and pay tons of tax, create businesses, hire people, and spend money. Then we can decrease taxes on the bottom 50% more.

🚨NEW: The top 0.1% of earners are paying more income tax than the entire bottom 50%, shocking data reveals [@thetimes]

Reeves: "I do think that those with the broadest shoulders should pay their fair share of tax, and I think you can see that through my actions last year at the Budget.” So, last year she made sure wealthy people paid their fair share of tax, but it was not enough, so she is…

It’s not just the wealthy who are leaving the UK, it’s the ambitious - the future wealth creators. When a country demonises wealth, it doesn’t just lose those with money it loses those who aspire to better themselves. Entrepreneurs, professionals, engineers, tech workers,…

Chart of the Day... 🤔 It's very unusual for payrolled employment not to rise - outside of pandemics. But Labour has managed it.

It's very unusual for payrolled employment not to rise - outside of pandemics.

But Labour has managed it.

Correction: Labour are choosing to spend £84m of taxpayers money etc. Good move, but it is our money, not their money.

BREAKING: Labour is investing an extra £84 million to help prevent homelessness this winter.

It's very sad to see a proven entrepreneur leave the UK, having created a company with over 10,000 jobs and paid £200m in UK tax. Surely we want to attract these people, to do more of the same.

If I was Nik I would have absolutely made the same decision. 18% holding of Revolut. Company will be worth $200BN without a doubt. $36BN position at that price. His cap gains bill alone would be $8BN-$10BN. Now in the UAE it will be $0. The Labour government has to…

If anyone has got one of these letters, I would be keen to see how it is worded. Please get in touch. Thanks.

This is pure populist nonsense… @ZackPolanski says “there are people who go to bed each night and earn more money in a night than this entire neighbourhood could earn in a year” … apparently we need to tax these people more to solve all of our problems at a national level.…

Let's make hope normal again.

Whoopsie. From miss speaking to miss spelling. Starmer will use this easy goal in PMQs.

'Why can't you spell Britain?' @NatashaC confronts @JamesCleverly on one of the most pressing issues to come out of the Conservative Party conference.

But the company does not have £122m sitting in its coffers to pay, so what is the compelling legal argument to transfer the debt to the directors? Anyone addressed the elephant in the room yet?

We said we'd crack down on Covid fraud. We are.

If Labour are saying the same thing before the next GE, then people might think that the failure to get growth was their fault. Does it take 5 years to turn it around? Nope.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves tells the Labour Party Conference "our economy would be £140bn bigger" if the UK had kept up with other advanced economies during the 14 years of Conservative government Follow live: bbc.in/42jFJeN

My primary concern is not the data. It's that a digital ID will not be used for proof but for control - that you'll soon need a digital ID to be allowed to do certain things and that the govt will set the conditions for that. Then it is only one further step to having to remain…

I've always found it odd that people who oppose government ID cards are usually more than happy to own a loyalty card that allows private companies to keep track of tons of personal information about you.

Let's also ask the tailors in Saville Row what they think of political decisions made by Cleverly.

Did Keir Starmer borrow that suit from someone a lot bigger? Crumpled at the ankles, too long in the cuff, loose enough to get another bloke in there with him. And someone please tell him about the buttons.
