PPtSSM 83 sees The Punisher facing arraignment for his recent spree of mayhem. With modern reflection one can see a lot of similarities to the Daredevil netflix show, however TV Punisher shows a marked lack of regret and a bolstered pride in his actions. Here, he just seems sad.
ASM 244-245 were a hoot! Im really loving the Hobgoblin and even knowing where things go, the twists and turns are a lot of fun! I love what they did with a villain whose identity is a secret and, at every turn, seems to outsmart the heroes. It's awesome!

I know its a sweeping generalization, but PPtSSM 81-82 solidifies that I really do not enjoy Mantlo's writing. A retread of a retread. Another Cloak and Dagger story with nothing new to say. Could've just reprinted the last one. And boy the dialogue! The wordiest. The corniest.
Perhaps the greatest panels ever from the pages of PPtSSM 82. Alongside some of the worst lettering ive ever seen. Yikes.
Guess who's back?! Mary Jane rockets back onto the scene with ASM 242! It feels like forever since she left the book waaayyyy back when she turned down Peter's marriage proposal, but I'm happy to finally have my favorite back!
PPtSSM 80 is perhaps the best issue of the series so far - a noir investigative mystery starring J. Jonah Jameson. Spider-Man haunts the story, remaining in the background, silently everpresent. I loved this one. Please do yourself a favor and pick it up!
ASM 240-241 features the origin of the Vulture just a short 20 years after his first appearance in issue 2! Pound for pound, i gotta say Vulture might have some of the most consistently great stories of all the Spidey rogues. You wouldnt guess it but theyre all good if not great!
ASM 239 🕷 JRJR doesn't disappoint even when compared with his father. He's delivering some of the best Spidey work we've seen! It's a fun headache trying to read these with the knowledge of how convoluted the Hobgoblin identity would become behind the scenes.
ASM 238! Ive been looking forward to this one for so long and it did NOT disappoint- with not one but two Romitas on the art what more could you need? The story is brilliant, the atmosphere is palpable, and the tension is thick! Cant wait for the twisted gordian knot of a reveal!
ASM 237.. yes, yes, Milton. You're very tall, but if you'd please, you're standing between me and issue 238 and I have been DYING to get to that one for AGES now! Just a couple issues more of 'Spectacular' and then it's Hobgoblin time, baby!!!
With PPtSSM 73-74 it's bye bye Debra Whitman and boy did this one's depiction of mental illness not age well. Turns out not only has Deb had a secret abusive husband she's been separated from but she's also schizophrenic! I'm sad to see you go! You deserved better, Deb!
ASM Annual 16 is the first appearance of MY favorite Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau! I've always loved her as an Avenger and, while I admit I know little about her overall, every time she's shown up anywhere its always put a smile on my face. Love her!
