Willunga without its Hill - what a novelty! Back in the day the Tour Down Under saw non-climbers winning this stage - Andre Greipel in 2008, Russel Van Hout in 2006, Robbie McEwen in 2002... And when all else fails, there's always Aldinga Beach to enjoy.
Tanunda in the Barossa Valley hosts today's opening TDU stage - and expect a big-sprint finish. But Cadel Evans (2002), Karl Menzies (2007) and Kai Hundertmarck (2001) are one of many solo-winners there...
Had good fun visiting friends in Sydney, on my first overseas trip as a New Zealand citizen...the closest I've been to Europe in over nine years!
Nice to tick-off Meyer's Pass on my bucket-list of New Zealand's great gravel rides...
I'm pleased to announce that grahamwatson.com is back up and running with a fresh look and new features, with even brighter images - our print gallery is always worth a close look!

Just realised the 2025 Ghent-6 is going on - it finishes Sunday! My earlier years saw me as a regular visitor, snapping such stars as Patrick Sercu, Tony Doyle, Rene Pijnen and Danny Clark. Gert Frank and Hans-Henrik Orsted (below) won in '84, a rare win against partisan locals..
It is the men's World Road Championships today, in KIngali, Rwanda, and so a chance to recall Joop Zoetemelk winning his world title in Italy - 40 years ago! He is the oldest-ever winner of the championship, and wore the Rainbow Jersey in the 1986 Tour de France at the age of 39!
Abraham Olano was a solo-winner of the 1995 World Road Championships in Duitama, Colombia, with Miguel Indurain beating Marco Pantani to the silver medal - what a day and what a race that was!
Tom Boonen won the 2005 World Road Championship in the centre of Madrid, Spain, beating Alejandro Valverde and Anthony Geslin in a long, flat sprint...
Peter Sagan won his first World Championship title in Richmond, USA, in 2015, attacking on a cobbled hill and winning by just three seconds from Michael Matthews and Ramunas Navardauskas while tens of thousands of fans cheered him on...
Shining in silver 🥈 Niamh Fisher-Black 🇳🇿 delivers an incredible performance in the Women Elite Road Race at #Kigali2025 💪 📷 SWpix
10 years have passed since Linda Villumsen and Vasil Kiryienka won their TT Gold medals in the USA in 2015...
Time Trial Worlds up-and-coming this Sunday - it has been a long 30 years since Jeannie Longo and Miguel Indurain won their respective Gold medals in Colombia in 1995...
It has been 20 long years since Karin Thurig and Michael Rogers won their Gold medals in Spain in 2005...
Today's Vuelta stage 19 passes through Medina del Campo - where Pedro Delgado led the race in 1989 - and stunning Salamanca, where Roberto Heras led the 2002 Vuelta...
Valladolid welcomes the Vuelta again, for a TT, just as it did in 1986 when Charly Mottet won, and in 1991 when Melchor Mauri won. Mathieu Hermans won two of his nine Vuelta sprint-stages into Valladolid in '88 & '89; Daniele Bennati won there in the 2012 Vuelta...

Today's Vuelta stage 17 races through the enchanting canyon of the Sil before passing Ponferrada, scene of the 2014 World Road Championships...
Alejandro Valverde won atop the Alto de El Morredero in 2006 on a day when race-leader Danilo DiLuca lost his golden jersey to Janez Brajkovic...
