Today in class we thought about music notes going round in circles and turned it into this universal covering space of the punctured disk. Each student started with one wheel of notes, then they joined them in pairs...then the pairs joined with other pairs, and so on...

Topological magic trick: Draw a rectangular border around a piece of paper. Tell the audience member that they will be drawing a simple closed curve on the paper—the more complicated they make it, the better. It can (and should) go in and out of the border rectangle 1/11

Something new happened today! My morning class was interrupted by a DoorDash driver trying to deliver food to one of my students. He also got the student's name wrong; made the whole thing more awkward and funnier.

Using Twitter after a long time only to show everyone the origami unicorn one of my students gave me before their exam last Friday! They made it from (a spare copy of) the cheat sheet allowed during the exam.
