ArXiv Alert: Updated an older paper with a new version! Paper: Sliding Window Persistence of Quasiperiodic Functions What's new: we added experiments that demonstrate the effect of noise on sliding window persistence. Link: arxiv.org/abs/2103.04540

Update: I have started a teaching position in the Mathematics Department at Michigan State University! Teaching my first class in 6 minutes!

I can now schedule a #visa appointment in 2025 for a 🇺🇲#conference in 2023. Now, I just have to figure out time-travel. (I think it should be easier than the visa process) @PhDVoice @AcademicChatter

Hey! I'm launching a virtual book club for "The Joy of Abstraction" with @ToposInstitute! It's asynchronous and will go at about a chapter per week. Anyone is welcome to ask me questions and I will make a video answering all the questions! @CambridgeUP topos.site/joa-bookclub/

Today in class we thought about music notes going round in circles and turned it into this universal covering space of the punctured disk. Each student started with one wheel of notes, then they joined them in pairs...then the pairs joined with other pairs, and so on...

Neat!

Topological magic trick: Draw a rectangular border around a piece of paper. Tell the audience member that they will be drawing a simple closed curve on the paper—the more complicated they make it, the better. It can (and should) go in and out of the border rectangle 1/11

Our 1st soccer paper is out! Very proud of all the students who made this happen, as well as the male co-authors who agreed to our listing reverse alphabetically so female names weren't coming after male names. arxiv.org/abs/2210.16474

Hi Math Twitter! Does anyone know if a list of REU programs that have funding for international students exist? The list hosted by the NSF is great, but is only useful for US citizens or permanent residents.

Happy Diwali to everyone who celebrates! 🪔 May you have tons on Soan-Papdi!

I wanted to come to my office early to finish something, but I forgot that sunrises happen later now, so I am here too early! Here's the view from my office this morning!

Something new happened today! My morning class was interrupted by a DoorDash driver trying to deliver food to one of my students. He also got the student's name wrong; made the whole thing more awkward and funnier.

Guess who's gonna experience a crash after teaching two classes, talking at the AATRN seminar, and overdosing on cocktails of caffeine and sugar, all before 1pm? This guy!

Using Twitter after a long time only to show everyone the origami unicorn one of my students gave me before their exam last Friday! They made it from (a spare copy of) the cheat sheet allowed during the exam.
