So pleased to see these two @ProgHist tutorials published🚀 If you want to do regression analysis, understand regression analysis, or just curious about different ways of doing longitudinal analysis of historical data, then these tutorials by @HumanitiesData might well be for you

It's been ten years since I defended my dissertation, and I'm summarizing the project for my third-year review portfolio. For the first time ever, I think I am actually explaining what my dissertation is about in a way that makes sense.

What if we disrupt the meal-kit genre by creating centralized food distribution locations with much more variety, and then we put the instructions for making the meals on websites or in books that you can borrow or buy?
A thoughtful scifi series with an ensemble cast where most of the episodes revolve around widening one's perspective or engaging in diplomacy, not just fighting "the bad guys." And it's Star Trek.
What’s the Star Wars show you actually want see but they’d never make? Mine is a political drama on Coruscant set right after the emperor seizes power. Democratic institutions kind of remain, but how robust are they? Lots of people are opposed to him, but is violence justified?
A lot of this probably true of many CS/ML programs, but not as broadly true of academia as some would guess. Lots of emphasis on data work, interpretability, etc. in places like digital humanities & computational social sciences.
Universities don't teach you this: There are stark differences between academia and industry roles. Every data scientist and machine learning professional I know had to find out the hard way. Some still think it's all the same. Some broad generalizations: 1 of 8

Re:loops in R, I think it makes sense to use the split-apply-combine approach as much as possible when working with data frames, but I also fall back on loops when I'm tired or I can't think of how to do something. Same goes for me with pandas/Python.
I prefer loops in #RStats because I found them easier as a beginner. I sometimes feel like I’m a minority/missing out on something by not using apply tho. What do other people use? Is it worth making the switch? #R #DataScience #coding
Happy #dayofDH #dayofDH2022, everybody! I spent the morning reading "initial findings" submissions for my Introduction to Cultural Analytics class. I have students analyzing tweets, reddit posts, spotify, folklore, Game of Thrones teleplay, and more!
Can others help me with this question? I will gladly accept links to articles, editorials, etc. discussing 'to theorize' as a verb in humanities contexts.
What does the verb "to theorize" mean to you? I ask this question in good faith. I know there are multiple definitions, and humanities usage is different from the primary scientific usage, but I also think there are multiple humanities meanings.
