Carbon may be the central element of organic chemistry but, for the broader chemical world, oxygen is the element of truly universal importance. Learn more about the many mysteries of this "doubly magical element" from our new book! @ChemistryFsu @FSUartssciences @FloridaState

Every catalyst is a paradox: it must change to make chemistry happen—yet finish unchanged, like a phoenix from the fire. But what if catalysts evolve? What if multiple species coexist? That’s not a bug—it can be a feature that unlocks new pathways.

Fans of Corey–Chaykovsky reaction know ylides can stand in for carbenes in cyclopropanations. But can an ylide do C–C bond insertion first? We show the first example: methylene insertion into a C–C bond, then cyclopropanation/epoxidation: pubs.rsc.org/en/content/art…

New study “Lost Data in Electron Microscopy” from @AnanikovLab finds that >97% EM images acquired in a decade remain unpublished: only ~2–3% make it into papers. This is a huge untapped data reservoir for AI and more efficient science! @Chemistry_MDPI mdpi.com/2624-8549/7/5/…

Can ground state reactions borrow stabilization from excited states to proceed faster? A very interesting paper by @JudyWuChem and Rainer Herges!

Now in @J_A_C_S. Sharing Francisco’s new work on modulating the thermal isomerization mechanisms of photoswitching azoarenes. pubs.acs.org/doi/full/10.10…

"Each gram of MOF soaks up 1000 mg of PFOA ...." - the last issue of C&E News makes you think. What is larger "1 g" or "1000 mg"? I hope that you know the answer!

New review in Chemistry: Cocktail-type catalysis challenges the old homogeneous vs. heterogeneous divide. Catalysts can evolve as complexes, clusters & nanoparticles in dynamic equilibrium. Embracing this concept opens new paths for reaction design. 🔗 doi.org/10.3390/chemis…

What a cool NMR spectrum! In addition to the negative chemical shift, note how the stereochemical arrangement of H and P strongly influences the coupling constants.

New personal record for lowest 1H NMR shift on a compound I made. (S/O Inorg Syn for being the goat)

In chemistry, unexpected results should never be wasted — they’re clues, puzzles, and sometimes the start of something new. Accidentally, this one also looks like a great undergrad exam problem

Prof. Lik Tong Tan asks an intriguing question at #ANNUMXIII: What functional group was identified as a common structural element in a family of natural products based on these NMR spectra? A little puzzle for those who love NMR and physical organic chemistry!
