Hey @SmartEnergyGB, can we get better at showing that an In-Home Display (although is a useful tool as part of a smart meter setup) is not the same as a smart meter? Energy specialists every day probably get many conversations with customers unable to tell the difference from ads

Some further context 👇 Ofgem’s price cap was set based on an average price of 64p per therm…

Helpful context here…Ofgem’s price cap (equivalent of £1200 for typical house duel fuel) last winter set in August was predicated on an average per therm price of gas Jan-July 2021 of about 64 pence… averaged about £2 for first 7 weeks of 2022, and then £3-£8 in past fortnight

Now... this has to be caveated! Rates vary considerably by region and the energy price cap is set on a backwards looking average! So take all of this with a huge pinch of salt.

Using figures from @MartinSLewis as a base line, if this price is sustained, the unit rate on gas will more than triple... ...and that's assuming energy providers supply gas at cost. 1 therm is approx 29 kWh, meaning a unit charge of approx 27p per kWh.

To fix or not to fix? I know many are trying to work out whether to accept energy fixes from your existing supplier. Remember my best-GUESS (too uncertain for more) is if it's no more than 25% costlier than the April price cap rates it's a decent bet for price surety.

⚠️ Wholesale gas prices in the UK have surpassed 800p a therm. This time last year the price was hovering at around 50p.

Octopus Energy is first supplier to announce customers will pay £50 below the price cap

Existing customers will see their bills increase to £1,921 instead of £1,971

By all means smart meters have their faults and weaknesses, but the amount of good they do at making bills and your estimated monthly costs more accurate and make following your usage more simple and easy to do, they are definitely worth the investment. express.co.uk/news/uk/156794…

There nothing I hate more than when people don't move far enough into the train carriage so you have to wait for the next train. Just ran to the train for the first for carriages being packed at the entrance and the doors shut by the time I reached an open space.

New Profile Pic and Twitter Profile banner. Definitely starting to feel like I'm at home at @OctopusEnergy.

I wish we could unteach everyone that in-home displays are smart meters...
