So @Railnatter recently put out a new episode on @LevelBoarding - as both @northernassist and @ScotRail confirm that their new fleets will be low-floored to enable level boarding, it's worth stating: WE WON. It will be very difficult for new fleets not to be LB-ready now 🏆
New Class 756 electric trains now run daily on the Coryton and Penarth lines, offering better comfort, faster journeys, more space, Wi-Fi, and level boarding. It’s part of Transport for Wales’ full rollout across the South Wales Valleys network. gov.wales/brand-new-elec…

My only rail trip here in Budapest was on M2, with its level boarding.
Here's what the combination of a low-floored train fitted with gap fillers and platform/track set (very roughly!) to the GB standard position looks like. Curvature doesn't matter. It isn't perfect, but it's a much better starting point than the status quo 📐
Yet more evidence of the damage that the chronic lack of post-2020 ambition for UK high speed rail is having on transport inequality: platform edge doors were a key accessibility opportunity that HS2 offered by operating a uniform fleet. Now they've been abandoned.
New Acela vs Vande Bharat for Ingress/Egress component— 🚅Acela: Level boarding, wider doors → faster, universally accessible, easier with luggage & wheelchairs. 🚄Vande Bharat: 2 steps to climb, narrow doors → not direct level access, slower ingress/egress. A large passenger…
First pic is of American Amtrack Acela which was launched today. Notice the door width and level boarding, and now compare with our Vande Bharat. No wonder there’s so much crowding and jostling at the doors during boarding and deboarding.
Talgo gets its ICE-L trains approved to run in Germany, paving the way for these new level-boarding trains to run Amsterdam-Berlin & Hamburg-Copenhagen. lavanguardia.com/dinero/2025081…
These are our new train carriages which will be operational by the end of the year. Currently they are building out a few station platforms that are not level but by the end of the year it will be all level boarding on our Dart train line. This should be the norm now!
🚉CARDIFF METRO (DRAFT) First DRAFT of my the @LevelBoarding and station access map for the METRO for Mon-Sat daytime services. I have requested details from @tfwrail but would be grateful for comments and corrections. The public NR information on station access is very old.
The intention is to show if there is @levelboarding (eg platform to train) as the outer circle of the station symbol with the internal showing the station access to the platform.
