Trying to shift student mindsets from "when I see this I DO this" (memorizing) to "when I see this I KNOW this" (understanding) can be tough when some have survived by memorizing for so long.

Played with @desmos Balance the Scale and my 9yo joined in. Days later she asks "can we do another one?". She has me change the exponent (typically starting with 100😀) and then adjusts. Awesome way to look at big/small numbers!
Not sure why I haven’t always thought of negative exponents as dividing. 2^4=1*2*2*2*2. 2^-4=1/(2*2*2*2)
In an unexpected turn of events, @desmos Penny Circle turned into a debate over whether the floor in the video was carpeting or tile. If you want to get kids talking and debating this will do it😂- they were very split- lots of good reasoning for both!

Inspired by the @MTLShow and @jennalaib to do slow-reveal boxplots in Algebra. It was a great way to access prior knowledge and I enjoyed seeing/hearing student thoughts on what data the plot might represent.
