We got ourselves up and moving this morning! The vertical whiteboards got a work out while we worked through divisibility rules and prime factorization.

Took my own girls to visit Interact Art Night at BMS. Thanks Ms. Dubin and Mr. Brooks! The girls had a great time making book marks, doing roller prints, and experimenting with model magic!

One year ago, I was doing this exact lesson as a demo down the hallway! Today, I get to replicate it with my own kiddos. Life comes atcha fast!

If grades are truly meant to be an indication of knowledge gained and retained, what is the justification for a late penalty?

It can be quite exhausting to have flexible, student-centered policies (opportunities to revise, minimal-to-no late penalties) + then to constantly hear students say they are doing work for other classes first as a result. BUT student-centered policies are still the way.

It’s time to shop!! Students in 6th grade math this week worked to compare the prices of 7 ingredients at 7 different stores to get the best bang for their buck!

It’s time to infer!! Students today were responsible for taking our introduction to percents lesson from yesterday and extending that knowledge to converting to fractions and decimals.

Today, we figuratively and literally “put our algebra hats on” to take the next step from just solving real world problems to writing expressions to model them algebraically!

Today’s 6th grade community day is well underway! Bagels this morning (thanks BPTA!!) and then a kickball tournament. A little before and after of my homebase as we took home the championship and a little cheer for Andrew who caught the game ending kick!

The BMS 6th grade math classes took our scavenger hunt outside today! Students worked to find equivalent fractions, identify common denominators, and accurately represent fractional diagrams in our outdoor academia space on this gorgeous Friday.
