In education #teachers are among the most poorly compensated, #edtech execs the highest. I posit that their impact on a child’s future are inversely proportional. Let’s retain teachers and pay them a living wage. Education requires high touch, not high tech.

Hey @DreamBox_Learn @MyPowerSchool @LexiaLearning and other Ed Tech apps: Teachers, students and parents don’t want their tax dollars to go to apps and Chromebooks over human teachers. One union made pink slips with your logos on them at a school board meeting. Cc: @PowerTool_

With the recent #PowerSchool #DataBreach in mind, do PS’s demoralized US employees have the security of student data in mind when they “will get laid off within 6 months as your job responsibilities get moved to India”? How about their replacements? glassdoor.com/Reviews/Employ…

Bad week for PowerSchool. Probably the largest data breach in K12 history was accomplished with a single credential.... Today we discovered a single point of failure when their web application firewall lost connection to their data host.

Today we discovered a single point of failure when their web application firewall lost connection to their data host.

If you want more info on the #PowerSchool #DataBreach I recommend listening to this podcast. It’s an excellent deep dive into what’s public. I haven’t reached out to my contacts within PS, but I imagine that they’re tight lipped about discussing it given the sensitive nature.

A very special PowerSchool Breach episode of k12 Tech Talk open.spotify.com/episode/1sfpGW…

Per @Newsweek #student data as far back as 1995 was compromised in the breach. My profile picture is a parody of Rich Gay, PS’s previous Chief Security Officer, a position I believe he wasn’t qualified for. Rich thankfully retired late last year. newsweek.com/powerschool-na…

I read that @MyPowerSchool paid a ransom to those responsible for the breach to delete the data. No way to be certain that they followed through and this will encourage bad actors looking for a payout. Districts should be weary of the #edtech companies entrusted with student data

re: #PowerSchool #databreaches “…for some districts, it could also include SSNs, personally identifiable information (PII), medical information, and grades.” This is a disaster for students whose data @MyPowerSchool was entrusted with protecting. bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/…

I’ve been logged off of X since the election and for my mental health regarding PS, but this was forwarded to me. 1) I hope they catch and prosecute those responsible for the breach 2) I’m not surprised it happened to @MyPowerSchool reddit.com/r/k12sysadmin/…

I hate PowerSchool—it’s not an accurate reflection and is only ever stress-inducing
