As a nation, we must stand together and condemn this heinous act of violence that undermines our democracy. We are grateful that former President Trump was not seriously injured and thank Secret Service and first responders for their rapid and brave response.

157 years ago, the 13th Amendment banned slavery except as punishment for a crime. I am proud to cosponsor @RepNikema and @SenJeffMerkley’s joint resolution to end this exception. Slavery is not acceptable under any circumstances. It’s time to abolish slavery once and for all.
