Indigenous cultural burning in North America is one of the hottest topics in fire management because it offers a hopeful pathway for rejuvenating fire-adapted ecosystems, revitalizing fire-dependent Native cultures, and restabilizing the climate. lanecc.edu/costs-admissio…
A NorCal mom on SoCal roadtrip suddenly faces apocalyptic odds to make it home. Not talking about the weather - my wife's new #scifi thriller is really good! (It even has an interview with a fire dozer operator, and climactic wildfire scene). Click the Amazon link for more.
Powerful interview with Will Harling. Might have to retweeted daily until fire season’s over (and then some). Why do we double down on failed approaches to wildfire? @ErikMNeumann ijpr.org/wildfire/2022-…

Climate change is not the only factor driving more devastating fires throughout California. Some are turning a critical eye to the role that management decisions, and specifically wildland fire suppression, play in exacerbating the risk of super fires. brencomm.com/post/the-case-…
It's about time the abysmal pay of federal seasonal wildland firefighters gets boosted, but more needs to be done: create a professional series of high-skill, high-wage, high-status Wildland Fire Managers doing year-round public service in fire planning & fuels/fire management.
If you really want to support firefighters, fight for real health benefits, and support ways of dealing with wildfires that don't require people to jump out of airplanes or crawl into gnarly gulches to suppress remote fires that should mainly be left to burn.
A Gofundme account has been set up for Tim Hart who was seriously injured while parachuting into the Eicks Fire in southeastern New Mexico. He works out of the jumper base at West Yellowstone, Montana. gofundme.com/f/support-smok…
I used fire today, making gate hardware in my forge. Check out instagram.com/zko.design/ if you want to see more pictures like this. And hit me up if you want to commission metal art or hardware. #forged #blacksmithing
I might add that a deeper dive into the validity of territorial sovereignty could simplify the complexity involved in this discussion. It is time for tribal management authority to become reality... @Debkrol

Great quote from Jeremy Bailey, “If you didn’t come from the federal firefighting system or if you didn't come from a well-known state agency that had similar qualifications, you don't matter and your qualifications don't matter." Thanks @Debkrol. amp.azcentral.com/amp/3547198001…

Despite What the Logging Industry Says, Cutting Down Trees Isn’t Stopping Catastrophic Wildfires
For decades, Oregon’s timber industry has promoted the idea that private, logged lands are less prone to wildfires. The problem? Science doesn’t support that.

Before and after images of the #AugustComplexFire. Many of the areas that burned hottest were brush before the fire, and that many of the forested areas burned with lower severity
"The Big Burn" created a “fire suppression machine” that helped cause our giant wildfires. @CalFire says 2020 could mark turning point. “Coming from Cal Fire, I’ll believe it when I see it,” says @TimIngalsbee. w/much help from @stephenjpyne my latest: nbcnews.com/news/us-news/b…
To mark Indigenous People's Day and Columbus Day, I reread Kirkpatrick Sale's book, The Conquest of Paradise. From the dammed Columbia River to Columbia Helicopters drowning wildfires, the Columbian legacy continues to haunt white settler-colonialism's culture of conquest.
