Why the flashing lights? When our plows are working, they are considered emergency vehicles. Motorists need to yield to emergency vehicles, rather than the other way around. 10 car lengths behind the plow is the safest place to be.

Q: Does it have to snow before black ice can form? A: No, moisture from vehicle exhaust can cause black ice to form on roadways. Any time the temps are below (or hovering around) freezing, motorists should be alert for the possibility of black ice and drive accordingly.
