Today marks the 77th year of the NHS! 💙 Thank you to all our incredible staff across the NHS for your continued hard work. From clerks to cooks, midwives to nurses, pharmacists to radiographers and many, many more – it’s our people who make us.
Bravo 👏
Confirming our position that there is no role for Physician Associates in general practice – our Chair @KamilaRCGP submits letter to the Leng Review. rcgp.org.uk/getmedia/273f7… #LengReview
The tide is turning. Well done
The RCP has today published an updated position on physician associates working in secondary care in the medical specialties: there is a limited role for PAs in secondary care as long as they are supported by clear supervision arrangements, professional regulation, and a…
Interesting. Let’s see if anyone can try and defend this behaviour
I did 2 x 12hr weekend lists to help a consultant at this trust 10 or so years ago and never got paid. They have history. Get together & decide what is an acceptable offer. Keep declining these shifts until that minimum rate is met. It’s not a case of “if”, but “when” it happens.
These new extra-contractual rates in @uhbtrust are abysmal. The average hourly rate for a plumber is £50 per hour. For an emergency plumber it is £112.50 with a £110 call out fee. Massive withdrawal of locums is the only answer to this.
I saw my GP morning, she was professional, friendly, kind, efficient and knowledgeable; she listened and examined me carefully, asked questions (including ones I didn't think were relevant to the "thing"). When she told me her diagnosis, I had a light-bulb moment realising why…
Why I tried to pause the plans for the #PhysicianAssociates. But it had backing from Labour, Tories and Lib Dems nataliebennett.org/latest/my-fata…
Do you know the years of training required to become a fully qualified GP 5+2+3 = 10 years of study & training. That's only if you don't take any breaks and don't fail any exams. Now, design a scheme to replace that 10-year experience with 2 years of training. Not safe.
The #PhysicianAssociates @rcgp paper has been leaked. As a Council member I can't really discuss the paper publicly, as despite the leak it is still officially confidential. But I believe that PAs have no role in General Practice, & I plan to say as much at #RCGPCouncil tomorrow.
These little kind gestures from the club always send me west 🥲 love it! Well in Harry 👏🏼
The worry here is that the general public will be totally oblivious, and will naturally assume they’ve seen a doctor. Not correcting misinformation is complicity.
I have the misfortune to see a PA today for my hospital appointment. The clinic nurse introduced them as a doctor, he never said he is not a doctor. I am naturally unimpressed, but feel trapped in the situation. I will be writing to PALS and the consultant team.
Let’s bring this back to patients. One thing that certainly doesn’t help them is being reviewed (in many cases unsupervised) by individuals who possess a 2-year diploma with a 100% pass rate.
With all due respect the same thing happens with children seen by GP’s and other paediatric specialists as well. I don’t think anecdote like this helps anyone.
Moeen Ali did everything England asked of him. From captaining England U19 World Cup team to opening the batting, leading spinner and finishing matches. He was a key player during England's golden period in limited overs cricket. Few days back he retired and his outstanding…

It’s quite simple. Her agenda is the wellbeing of patients
