I always use myself as an example, why should I get a test with a 55% detection rate for CF-23 while someone who is AJ has a 97% detection rate. We're both paying our insurance premiums/deductibles, why do I get a lower quality screen based on my ethnicity/race?
Resharing this as it seems an opportune time to challenge everybody to look at your own practice and really examine when & why you restrict access to info for pts based on race. And why you may be using genotype panels vs. sequencing for carrier screening. #gcchat
Please stop telling people to "just leave"....it's beyond insensitive not to realize that that's simply not possible for many-especially at this point.
just watched an NBC meteorologist cry on air talking about how terrifying Hurricane Milton is & then the next thing I saw was a woman in the evacuation zone saying she has literally nowhere to go — all the hotels are booked & she doesn’t have a lot of money & has 4 dogs/6 kids.
When work takes you to #PriMedMidwest2024 to man the booth and you get meet @LGlaucomflecken & @DGlaucomflecken and tell them that they're also celebrities within the genetic counseling community. #genechat
“There is no edit, no amendment, no addendum to these terrible bans that can undo the harm they have created and allow for full access to care. Simply put, abortion bans must be repealed in order to ensure full access to safe, essential reproductive health care for all people.”
When abortion bans prevent ob-gyns and clinicians from providing essential health care, patients and their families suffer for it. ACOG condemns attempts to malign ob-gyns for providing care the best they can in difficult circumstances. Read our statement: bit.ly/3NdjcZm
I have been shouting this from the rooftops to everyone I know. Young breast cancer, which used to be rare, is now common. We have been tracking this for 20 years, but it’s really dramatic over the last 10. Please take note #MedTwitter NO ONE is too young for breast cancer!
‼️ New findings from @AmericanCancer today show that #BreastCancer rates continue to rise at a faster pace in women younger than 50 years compared to those 50 or older. Read the free report: acsjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.33… @OncoAlert #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth #BCSM

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” #MartinLutherKingJr The execution of #MarcellusWilliams is a devastating moment that reflects the grave injustices still present in our legal system. We mourn his loss and extend our prayers to his family. Let’s also…
A reminder that Black people are 7x more likely to be wrongly convicted of murder than white people and since the late 1980s, Black folks make up more than 50 percent of exonerations.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Supreme Court refuses to halt the execution of Missouri death row inmate Marcellus Williams.
And SCD vs. cystic fibrosis is an example of systemic discrimination. #nsgc24

On the innovation issue: “We don’t think this will be financially realistic for labs… There is going to be a significant cost on the development of new tests.” - Lisa Schlager, VP Public Policy at @FacingOurRisk #NSGC24 #GeneChat

The amount of overlap between my dissertation research on professional identity formation at NSGC AC and the abstract “Navigating belonging and identity at the NSGC AC: Insights from a longitudinal study of BIPOC GC students” is blowing my mind.
