"The Deep Story Beneath the Big Lie." lareviewofbooks.org/article/the-de… One of the better pieces essays I have read about "the persecution narrative’s thematic centrality and emotional power." It's long, but recommended.
The left mocking this song at its peril. Look passed it’s ideological contradictions & look toward its workingclass emotional pull. It leads to right-wing conclusions (e.g., anti-welfare) but dwell on how it takes the listener from an anti-rich sentiment to get there. This is key
If you want to understand how conservatives are being shamed by progressives and liberals, read this excellent analysis. As I argue in #SeeingOthers, figuring out new ways to acknowledge the dignity of workers will be central to the outcome of the 2024 presidential election.
This is by far the best piece I've read on conservatism today by @amnadler and @dorontaussig for @LAReviewofBooks The most creative work on American conservatives is coming from the field of communications including the likes of @ajbauer and @PeckReece lareviewofbooks.org/article/the-de…

Peck zeros in on why Carlson stood out among right-wing media figures. His move was " to constantly reframe white nationalist grievances as economic grievances and draw a linkage between anti-immigrant attitudes with working-class identity."

First, they started using the word "corporate media" as a pejorative and now they're using the word "neoconservative" as a pejorative. The political language of the last 30 years is being recoded right in front of our eyes.
