There’s no need to lie or capeshit about this. Median Chinese living standards are still below median Americans. This doesn’t discount the incredible success the CCP has had, nor does it make a case about the superior economic arrangement or governing system.

As a child of the post-9/11 and Financial Crisis era, it's crazy to think that UK GDPpc > US GDPpc in 2007 (partially due to an overvalued GBP, but still). London was plum posting, highly sought after for new US finance grads. Britain was seen as cool, not dysfunctional.
