Jack, this podcast only further harms and enables the actions of Rowling. I highly recommend that you watch this video from @ContraPoints about it. youtube.com/watch?v=EmT0i0…

Baker Places and its administrative arm run a combined 215 treatment beds and have close to $70 mil in city contracts. But this month, the organization said it needed the city to cover a $4 million shortfall or it would have to close some programs. (3/6) sfstandard.com/public-health/…
At her day job, Lisa Pratt works as SF's director of Jail Health Services. But on the side, Pratt clocks 20 hrs/week as medical director of Baker Places, a drug rehab nonprofit that receives the bulk of its funding from DPH—which also employs Pratt. (2/6) sfstandard.com/public-health/…
In a phone call, (the SFDPH employee) said that her work as medical director at Baker Places amounted to being an on-call “consultant” on weekends, during which time she makes herself available for calls and “sleep[s] with her phone.” Nice reporting by @sfstandard.
This @SF_DPH employee has been making a $123,000 salary for a drug rehab nonprofit that’s mysteriously come up short millions of dollars—and that's asked the city for a bailout. Her job? Keeping her phone on while she sleeps. (1/6) sfstandard.com/public-health/…

What a bittersweet Black History Month for public radio. Seems everyone is paying attention to issues of race more than ever before in my industry, which is good. But that also means we're all seeing just how *bad* things are, and have been for some time.
(this dovetails with my deep dream to give a third coast talk called "it's not about you," where I talk about being in social work before journalism and how when journalists get a big head about their profession they forget that they're just the messenger, not the subject)
how long does it take for someone showing you and telling you your work and your ideas are worthless before you believe it? a day? a year? how many hours does it need to sink in bone-deep? harm like that has a long-ass half-life.
Missed this last week. So brave of @CelesteHeadlee to say this about what she went through at @WNYC and @TheTakeaway Just in case anyone missed or forgets that moment in audio industry gender equity history: wnyc.org/story/harassme…

Every woman, in every industry beyond publishing (especially advertising), knows exactly what @jenzerb is talking about. Women, read this, get very very angry and act on that anger. Men, read this and FOR FUCK'S SAKE STOP THIS FUCKING SHIT HAPPENING: jenzerb.medium.com/i-left-my-care…
fun(?) fact: one of the reasons we have a federal minimum wage is because my great-grandfather, who owned a lumber business, fought it all the way to the Supreme Court and, thankfully, lost.
Just an observation about the media: We’ve gotten dozens of request from political reporters asking to be connected with veterans who became right-wing extremists. But we’ve gotten zero interest in the perspective of POC troops who had to cope with extremists in their units.
if you liked the photos may I recommend reading the words I wrote since writing is in theory my actual job and @erinschaff and @AnnaMoneymaker take better photos nytimes.com/2021/01/13/us/…
