Yesterday my partner completed the last placement of her adult nursing degree. She was recently nominated for the British Journal of Nursing awards, a testament to how hard she has worked over the three years since she moved to the UK, following my job.
I live in a shared ownership flat. When I moved in, the service charge was £1,600 pa. That's for a 1 bed flat. It is now £6,000 pa. It is more than my rent - and that too has increased above inflation. Do you think that's affordable?
43% of leaseholders say leasehold has affected their ability to start a family. @UKLabour is failing because it is not giving focus to the people’s priorities like ending leasehold, a manifesto commitment. Instead, we get policies no one voted for! dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1…

A London lawyer bought hundreds of Sheffield freeholds. Then the ‘very aggressive’ letters arrived. Scares people into paying high price for freehold, 6000% profit. Previously arrested, charged with stalking offences. Govt must investigate vampires. sheffieldtribune.co.uk/a-london-lawye…
This goes way beyond a lawyer acting unethically. If Milne knows the statements he's making are false (and it seems likely he does) then it's fraud.
Shocking article in the Sheffield Tribune. A solicitor, Andrew Milne, buying up freeholds of houses and then making (false) threats to the leaseholders to bully them into buying the freehold at a huge premium.
Shocking, but perhaps not unsurprising to many leaseholders living this nightmare.
This is a shocking story: most shocking of all, he remains a solicitor.
Meanwhile, this government refuses to move to commence the enfranchisement reforms in the Leasehold and Freehold Reform Act 2024 that will standardise and make cheaper the process to buy one’s freehold. They’ve won the judicial review so really no excuses!
This is a shocking story: most shocking of all, he remains a solicitor.

This is a 6 month bill from a new managing agent LSH for service charges on a building which has received a prohibition notice in July 2025, everyone evicted. Let down by the fire service and the courts. We need a national enquiry.
This statement is just plain wrong. Ask any Leaseholder who has watched their service charges double or triple in the years since they ‘bought’ their flat. Freeholders are under no requirement to get value for money in service charges. But the law says they can demand anything.
Freeholders are not able to demand unlimited money. Only the money that was agreed to be paid by the leaseholder when the contract with them was signed.
Dear God, just abolish leasehold. Like your manifesto said you would.
So many people aren't aware of this. Our service charge also tripled in the last 5 years. It'snow 2% of property value, so lending is an issue. It's a perfect storm for thousands of flats, especially 1 beds or shared ownership in London.
My service charge more than tripled since 2008. As most banks won’t lend if the SC is more than 1% of the property value, the flat would have needed to double in value to sell to anyone other than a cash buyer. I just sold at auction for 15% less than its 2008 price.
1) abolish leasehold 2) abolish fleecehold estates 3) set up a police task force to investigate organised service charge fraud. 4) Put some people in prison Fixed it for you.
Managing agents need prosecuting, not regulating. They're just muggers in suits. Leasehold law needs fundamental reform, not minor tweaks. #Fleecehold
This Labour government is committed to strengthening the regulation of managing agents to drive up service standards across the industry. I have asked Firstport’s Managing Director to meet with me to discuss the significant concerns raised by MPs of all parties.
BBC SE Today 10:40 on astronomic rises in s/c at site debated by @Rebecca_SPaul Young owners wiped out: £2,800 8 years ago on 2-bed; now £7,500pa. FirstPort. How can you increase supply in this unreformed mess? @mtpennycook @justinmadders @NLC_2019 bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episod…
Leasehold price crash continues. Reigate couple stuck in unsellable home after service charge triples in 8 years. It will sell, (investors looking for cash returns will buy anything with 10% yield) but that price may leave them in negative equity. bbc.co.uk/news/videos/cd…
We're in the midst of a full-blown price crash, 35%-50% down from their peak, for most leasehold flats in the south east. It's not being reported because there's a lag and no official index for leasehold prices. The total collapse in new build sales in London is unprecedented.
It's disappointing to see @FT quote bogus data that ground rents represent €30B in potential "losses" for freeholders. That's a made up number. And of course freeholders are 'concerned' ... that's the whole point. The gravy train is coming to an end, belatedly.…
