I think public transit should be good. I want to copy systems that have extremely high ridership, usefulness, and user satisfaction. If some of the systems were free I would copy it. Zero of them are free and all of them think it’s crazy to suggest it.
i think public transit should be free. if that offends, well, shit, just kys i guess.
No, absolutely blame them. They could’ve charged less for devices in these regions, or I dunno, not charged $70 or $100 for 70w or 96w adaptors. Or offered buyers a coupon linked to the serial number for a free charger. Lots of options beyond, “your laptop now costs more”
Don't blame Apple this time -- if you're in the European Union or the UK, your new M5 14-inch MacBook Pro or iPad Pro may cost you $70 extra because Apple isn't allowed to bundle a charger. By @WGallagher appleinsider.com/articles/25/10…

We did it: 🇩🇪Germany will OPPOSE Chat Control! 🥳 Thanks everyone for writing to the ministers. 🫶 #ChatControl will not get a majority in the EU Council - at least for now.

📣 Germany is close to reversing its principled opposition to mass surveillance & private message scanning, & backing the Chat Control bill. This could end private —& Signal—in the EU. Time is short and they're counting on obscurity: please let German politicians know how…
We are alarmed by reports that Germany is on the verge of a catastrophic about-face, reversing its longstanding and principled opposition to the EU’s Chat Control proposal which, if passed, could spell the end of the right to privacy in Europe. signal.org/blog/pdfs/germ…
It is pretty funny that the majority of complaints you hear from the people protesting datacenter construction are about the water usage, which is fake, and not about the power consumption, which is real.
Wholesale electricity costs as much as 267% more than it did five years ago in areas near data centers. That’s being passed on to customers. bloomberg.com/graphics/2025-…

I woke up in my normal bed
Woke up because my AI controlled bed is too cold. Went to adjust temperature and I can’t because the Eight Sleep app is currently broken. Can’t adjust by hand because I have a Pod3, not the upgraded Pod4 with physical controls. Now I am stuck in a cold bed. This feels dystopian.
Again: The USPS is REQUIRED to deliver to EVERY. SINGLE. ADDRESS in the United States. They have someone ride into the Grand Canyon ON A MULE to deliver mail to people who live at the bottom of the canyon. They are not meant to be profitable. They are meant to serve US citizens.
I think it was a tremendous moral failure on the part of a lot of people to validate and even promote the idea that things under the Democrats were as bad as they could possibly be. Intentionally distorting vulnerable young people's risk assessment for political clout was wrong.

Volkswagen sold more sausages (8.5 million) than cars (5.2 million) in 2024, according to an annual report

In Berlin you get used to weird payment policies. Some place only take cash, others only card. Yesterday I went to a Korean restaurant that only takes card at night
My longstanding opinion is that a lot of the value of a CS degree is the meta skill of learning to understand/apply technical concepts - why take this from yourself? who benefits? imo if you're thinking this way you....maybe shouldn't be pursuing a CS degree!
Put another way, I'm pretty sure a lot of Computer Science students are using ChatGPT to complete their coding assignments instead of actually doing the assignments themselves. If true, it's a huge problem. The process of learning debugging is critical to growing as an engineer.
I will easily take “every device I own and every device the people in my life own can charge off the same cable” over “we might lose out on a millimeter of phone thinness”
Shoutout to the EU for making it impossible to engineer a solution!
