the rectangle seems to dominate our lives, due to the phone. previously it was the square because of tv. it’s possible another shape will claim dominance in the future

You absolutely must become post-laptop. Everything of value can be accomplished on your phone

Why hasn't "zugzwang" caught on as a word outside the chess world? It's such a fun word to say, and it means a situation you can apply to so many things: when you have to make a move, but every legal move would make your situation worse. E.g. "I'm in zugzwang with my job search."

I really appreciate the term crashing out. never before has there been a value-neutral way to say someone is having a mental health episode

yeah buddy NO reason for people who work low-wage jobs with irregular hours to buy frozen and/or processed foods. nothing better than getting home from the Amazon warehouse at 7pm and then peeling potatoes for an hour

I am convinced we could solve nearly all SNAP issues overnight if SNAP only covered whole foods and meat and NOTHING ELSE. Vegetables. Meat. End of list.

Gotta say, nothing I've seen in the last few hours has changed my view that Germany's governing party has a serious strategy for combatting the rise of the AfD. Quite the opposite.

I think public transit should be good. I want to copy systems that have extremely high ridership, usefulness, and user satisfaction. If some of the systems were free I would copy it. Zero of them are free and all of them think it’s crazy to suggest it.

i think public transit should be free. if that offends, well, shit, just kys i guess.

No, absolutely blame them. They could’ve charged less for devices in these regions, or I dunno, not charged $70 or $100 for 70w or 96w adaptors. Or offered buyers a coupon linked to the serial number for a free charger. Lots of options beyond, “your laptop now costs more”

Don't blame Apple this time -- if you're in the European Union or the UK, your new M5 14-inch MacBook Pro or iPad Pro may cost you $70 extra because Apple isn't allowed to bundle a charger. By @WGallagher appleinsider.com/articles/25/10…

📣 Germany is close to reversing its principled opposition to mass surveillance & private message scanning, & backing the Chat Control bill. This could end private —& Signal—in the EU. Time is short and they're counting on obscurity: please let German politicians know how…

We are alarmed by reports that Germany is on the verge of a catastrophic about-face, reversing its longstanding and principled opposition to the EU’s Chat Control proposal which, if passed, could spell the end of the right to privacy in Europe. signal.org/blog/pdfs/germ…

It is pretty funny that the majority of complaints you hear from the people protesting datacenter construction are about the water usage, which is fake, and not about the power consumption, which is real.

Wholesale electricity costs as much as 267% more than it did five years ago in areas near data centers. That’s being passed on to customers. bloomberg.com/graphics/2025-…

I woke up in my normal bed

Woke up because my AI controlled bed is too cold. Went to adjust temperature and I can’t because the Eight Sleep app is currently broken. Can’t adjust by hand because I have a Pod3, not the upgraded Pod4 with physical controls. Now I am stuck in a cold bed. This feels dystopian.
