So this is now, officially, real. It is a labor of love for hoops, edited w/ @johnhollinger. The great @ShotDrJr did the thing, combing through each of the 100 essays from our incredible NBA staff at @TheAthletic. Pre-orders available now; drops 11/26. Humbly, it's a good read.
There's 4:34 left in the first half. Lots of fans are already leaving. Maybe it's to go to the concession stands. Maybe it's to go to their cars. Either choice is justified at this point.
The Seahawks can get whatever they want, to whomever they want, against this Commanders defense so far tonight. Chunk play after chunk play.
Six years ago (!!!), just a couple days after he couldn't lift his arm above his head, Max Scherzer battled and dodged and weaved through five innings in Houston, and gave the Nats a chance to win Game 7. Same tonight, at age 41. One of the all-time incredible competitors.
Come on, man: it's Game 7 of the World Series. He's not trying to hit you down 3-1 in the fourth.
This is incredible camera work from Fox in Game 7. I don't think I've ever seen this angle before on a replay. Rising to the occasion.
Everyone hates tanking, and says it’s terrible for the NBA. Except …it still, often, works, as is the case with the 76ers, who finished last year 5-31 and got a prized talent in V.J. Edgecombe, who’s brought hope back to the franchise. In @TheAthletic: nytimes.com/athletic/67680…
Wonderful work from @curlyfro and @JJ_NBA on NBA pioneers Earl Lloyd, Chuck Cooper and Nat "Sweetwater" Clifton, who helped break the league's color barrier in the '50s, and are being celebrated during the NBA's 75th anniversary season. In @TheAthletic: nytimes.com/athletic/67621…
The Nationals are finalizing a deal for Blake Butera to be named manager, source says. Butera is a bit of an unconventional pick. Just 33, he was the Rays senior director of PD. This is his first managing gig. @JeffPassan was first
Savages, reconsidered: 5) Augusta 4) Beast 3) Trey Ye 2) Fred 1) Come on:
A 101 mph fastball a foot outside of the target is a passed ball??
Jayden Daniels, on his hamstring: "If I'm out there, I'm not even thinking about it. If I was worried about something, I wouldn't be playing. ... if I'm out there on the field, I'm gonna be confident in myself and my abilities to go out there and execute and play football."
RIP, Pine Room Salad. An all-time favorite from the Houston's days: washingtonian.com/2025/10/29/woo…
