Managed to release a new version of @BiteyTrees on this last day of 2020! Adding some new levels and such. It's been a crazy year in so many ways though, and not as productive as I would've liked on the #GameDev front - Here's to a better 2021 & good luck in all your endeavors 😇

#BiteyTrees has now been updated to version 1.4.0 on the App Store! Link: apps.apple.com/us/app/bitey-t… - This version features 9 additional levels along with a new type of obstacle (water) that blocks movement but not spells. #IndieGame #MobileGaming #iOSGaming #RPG

After a solid few months of neglecting my #GameDev hobbies, I've been feeling suddenly inspired to dust off this idea and try to make something of it. Maybe exploring some kind of "merge things" mechanic, which seem to be pretty popular and engaging...

Still slowly planning out my next game -- I mentioned wanting to explore the monster catching / virtual pet genre, and sketched out this concept where you can evolve a critter into many different forms via a branching evolution tree. What do you think? #GameDev #MobileGames

It's weird looking back on this tweet... Almost 15 months later I'm still working from home, with no end in sight, even though everything's starting to open back up. I suspect a lot of companies are questioning the value of making tech people commute to a physical office now...

So we'll be bunkering down for a while due to #Coronavirus - our offices have been told to work from home, and school for the kids is closing as well. It's going to be a weird few weeks, but hopefully these measures will lessen the impact and help save lives. Stay safe everyone.

For this week's #ScreenshotSaturday, here is an attempt at a card flip animation I made for a 2D game in #GodotEngine, using sprite nodes and a skew shader to simulate a pseudo 3D-ish effect. What do you think? Any ideas for improvement and/or other approaches entirely? #GameDev

Latest post on the dev blog: A postmortem of a game jam I did a little while back, including the approach for generating & mutating 2D critters, inspiration on "evolution" themed games, & thoughts on short (weekend) vs. longer (2+ week) game jams: devharts.com/2021/03/creati… #GameDev

Playing around with creating a mini HP meter in #GodotEngine, and using the GDScript "exports" feature to get controls to view and edit properties in the editor - Super handy feature that I probably haven't been making use of well enough before now 😆 #GameDev #ScreenshotSaturday

I thought it would be fun to look up the #DvorakKeyboard hashtag, and found that it has like 6 posts over the past year - so I am pleased to now join this tiny exclusive Twitter club, haha

So it turns out that the Dvorak keyboard cover from @KBCovers ("Apple Magic Keyboard" style) fits perfectly on a @System76 Lemur Pro if you just cut out the part with the keys 😆😆 I'm ridiculously happy about this discovery after years of enjoying a MacBook with one of these

For this week's #ScreenshotSaturday, here's the result of playing around with Synfig Studio for animated vector art a little more, attempting to make new and improved versions of these elemental tree monster sprites (old versions on left, new versions on right) #GameDev #GameArt

Experimenting with Synfig Studio for animated vector art, and ended up with a new and improved version of this fire elemental tree monster thing from my silly little #iOS game - old version (left) vs. new version (right). What do you think? #GameDev #GameArt #ScreenshotSaturday

My latest random #GameDev shenanigans: Playing around with themes in #GodotEngine, going for a #RPG inspired style - finding it surprisingly challenging so far though (lots of trial and error to figure out what settings affect what, and still need some work on the scrollbars)

Latest blog post: My experience migrating from Mac to Linux so far, including my history as a Mac user, why I decided to switch, my rationale for choosing a #System76 Linux-powered laptop, and how it's influencing the #GameDev project I'm focusing on next: devharts.com/2020/09/switch…

Update on #UnexpectedJam: I managed to submit a thing - Sort of an idle clicker toy where you selectively breed these simple cartoony creatures with heritability and mutations thrown in: devharts.itch.io/mutation-lab #GameDev ...No win or lose conditions, that's the whole game 😅

Off to a slow start, but I did get started on the beginnings of an #UnexpectedJam game this weekend -- Hoping to play around with procedural generation and see if / to what extent I can produce results "unexpected" even to myself 😆 #GameDev

So I heard about #UnexpectedJam over on r/GameDev the other day, and was thinking of giving it a try! It runs for 2 full weeks which would be an interesting change of pace from the weekend jams I've done in the past: itch.io/jam/unexpected… #GameDev

Speaking of the dev blog, I've been considering migrating it to use @jekyllrb (whereas it's currently powered by #WordPress) -- I'm really intrigued by the idea of a static site generator that's capable of producing a fully functional blog (other than maybe comments) #DevBlogs

New post on the dev blog: Another excessively detailed (if slightly belated) game jam postmortem for Ludum Dare #46! Including details on time management, getting the scope right, and the story behind the design of the robot sprite: devharts.com/2020/08/game-j… #GameDev #GodotEngine

After dabbling mainly in vector art for my various #GameDev endeavors up until now, I finally decided to try out @Aseprite have been taking a stab at making some pixel art! Here is my first super basic animation - I call these little guys "Blockomon" #ScreenshotSaturday #PixelArt
