As I wrote with @SpeakSamuel and @jasonhehehe last week, DHS is about to adopt a weighted lottery rule that will massively crank up misclassificaiton of H-1B workers. The obsession with Wage Levels and occupations is dumb. Select the people with the highest salaries!

There are two main problems with Trump's new H-1B lottery overhaul: 1.) It uses the flawed "Wage Level" system to prioritize which applicants get selected. The Wage Level system is unreliable because it puts low paying occupations on the same par as high paying occupations. And…

Here is the Trump Administration's latest H-1B proposal in a nutshell: - DHS: We're going to overhaul the way H-1B applicants are selected and only give visas to the highest skilled people. - H-1B critics: So you're going to scrap the H-1B lottery? - DHS: No, we're keeping…

The administration is trying to improve H-1Bs. Thats great. Unfortunately, what they are proposing will make not fix the problems, and makes some worse. My colleagues @cojobrien @SpeakSamuel and @jasonhehehe have a better idea: eig.org/eig-letter-dhs…

Last time I'll bug my feed with this thread of examples, but they highlight some of the many dumb ways DHS is proposing to reallocate H-1Bs. Hard to look at any of these cases and go "yeah, that's in the national interest." x.com/cojobrien/stat…

A flavor of what the "merit-based" H-1B weighted lottery would do: A landscape architect in Bethlehem, PA making $66,000/year would have double the odds of being awarded an H-1B visa of a pediatric surgeon down the street earning $230,000/year.

As I say to some Abundance Democrats, ending race- and sex-based contracting should be table stakes. If you can't take this on, which is immoral, inefficient, and helps no actually disadvantaged person, you're not serious about cost-drivers.

Filling in for @jimgeraghty on today's @NRO Morning Jolt, I wrote about the Trump administration's efforts to end unconstitutional racial preferences in federal contracting. Also, how a Presbyterian family in California grows the fruit used in rituals for the ongoing Jewish…

The challenge: 21 million workers earn less than $16/hr, two-thirds are women, and in states like WV & LA, 1 in 5 prime-age men don’t have jobs. Too many Americans face low pay or no pay. So, let’s talk about what a WAGE SUBSIDY can do. [1/8] 🧵
