This is a rigorous quantitative study on how to design and functionalize protein condensates to make synthetic organelles for biotechnological applications. Congratulations Mack (@M_T_Walls)!! Your tour de force studies are paying off!

I am beyond thrilled to be able to share my first first-author manuscript! 🥳 It has been a long time coming! Wouldn't have been possible without all of the help and support from Kevin Xu, @javalosLAB, & @brangwynnelab. Stay tuned for more! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Proud to share a preprint describing the optoPlateReader (oPR), a device for optogenetics, spectroscopy, and feedback control in *each well* of a 96-well plate. Tremendous effort by our ugrad @iGEM team. Led by Saachi Datta and team mentor @WillBenman. 👇 biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Our paper on isobutanol/isopentanol biosensor in yeast is finally out: nature.com/articles/s4146…. No longer screening in the dark for strains to produce these biofuels. Kudos to @yan_fei_zhang @JeremyCortez3, Sarah Hammer, @Ceslopezg, Sergio Garcia-Echauri for their awesome work.

I am delighted to share this review on the role of physiology in microbial metabolic engineering. It was a great experience writing it with @JoseMontLo and @Duranigrade. Thanks also to the editors @NatureRevMicro.

Congratulations Lisset @Duranigrade !!

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute @HHMINews has awarded a 2021 Gilliam Fellowship for Advanced Study to Lisset Duran @Durranigrade of Chem. and Bio. Engineering, under @javalosLAB and @DJCohenEtAL. #GilliamFellows hhmi.org/news/mentoring…

Awesome endorsement Jared (@toettch). Thank you so much!

If you're interested in optogenetics with a dash of metabolic engineering (or metabolic engineering with a dash of optogenetics), you can't do better than Jose's lab! A great mentor with great ideas.

Congratulations to our own new HHMI Gilliam Fellow (@Duranigrade), with @DJCohenEtAl . Many great things to come Lisset!!

Today HHMI announces our largest group of new #GilliamFellows as part of our commitment to advance diversity and inclusion in science. Learn more and meet the Fellows: bit.ly/2UzAHeo
