In the absence of information - people make up their own. This is the first thing they taught me in a change management leadership course. Communicate what you are working on at the leadership level and what’s keeping the leaders up at night.

One thing you might hate about working with me but I’ll probably never change is I gotta know the details. I’m gonna peek at almost every doc, memorize impt data points, comment all up in ya figma, read the repo every now and then, emoji react 👀 a bunch of slacks.

Of course that's your contention. You're a first year engineering manager. You just finished some human centric leadership guru, Rands prob'ly.

Congrats to my friends at @reflectnotes on their 2.0 launch! I’ve gone through a handful of different note taking apps and settled on Reflect for the simplicity, speed, and focus on a great UX. Awesome to watch this little bootstrapped team iterate so quickly!

We have been busy bees 🐝! Today, we're announcing Reflect 2.0. Read on to see what's new...

Great seeing you!

Running along the Portland riverfront this morning and randomly spotted @joshknowles running the opposite direction with his mom…and then I ran into his arms for a hug. Think it’d been ~9 years since we last saw each other. #caboose

This is an amazing opportunity to work alongside Colin and the @CustomerIO exec team as they continue to kick butt 📈🚀

This post is unavailable.

Today marks 5 years sober. While difficult at times (especially over last two years), I am confident I’m a better person because of this decision. If anyone is struggling and needs advice or just someone to talk with please reach out!

I’ve had the opportunity to use @reflectnotes over the past few months and love the simplicity of the design. @maccaw builds great software!

Today we are launching Reflect Academy, a free note-taking course. reflect.academy

Giff is smart. Follow his advice. “Our job as leaders was to create the environment where: 1) experimentation could happen; 2) experimentation led to actual insights and conclusions; 3) the experimenting teams had an obligation to share those insights with the rest of our teams.”

Was feeling the pain of PM/Eng twitter and jotted down 10 lessons I've learned making software over the years: giffconstable.com/2021/08/10-les… Below are the 10 topics:

“Don’t confuse pressure with urgency. You won’t be judged on how quickly you decide; you will be judged by the consequences of your decision that appear in the hours, days, weeks, months, and years after you decide. It is these results that build your leadership reputation.”

Excited to see many of our amazing @vmwaretanzulabs clients speaking at this event next month!

Last year, startups at @CapitalFactory received $110 MILLION in non-dilutive funding through the @DeptofDefense. Most of them had never worked with the government before and are just regular companies. Find out how @FedSupernova next month. Register 👉🏽 FedSupernova.com

15 years ago today, a group of Ruby on Rails developers boarded @planetargon's "The Argon Express" in Portland, OR. We spent the next two days drinking and coding on the train until we arrived to very first @RailsConf in Chicago.

Incredibly proud of our team helping the US Army Futures Command build their Software Factory. Especially excited that it’s down the street from my house in Austin! I’m hiring Product Managers, Developers, and Designers for this and other awesome programs. tanzu.vmware.com/content/blog/u…

Day 1 of 7 day vacation: opens todo list and quickly sets it aside, “you have plenty of time, relax!” Day 3 of 7: “one more day of doing nothing will leave you stress free!” Day 7 of 7: staring at unfinished todos. Anxious, stressed, not relaxed, “Oh no, what have I done...”

The One Thing That Great Leaders Understand

I was scanning Twitter this past week and I came across these great Tweets by Michael Seibel at Y Combinator.

Leaders must admit when they are wrong. They need to learn from failure. They need to be open to vastly different perspectives. They need to listen more than they speak. They must give constructive feedback on a timely basis. They need to remain calm when everyone is screaming.

Today I celebrate 10 years with Pivotal Labs. The paycheck logo has changed a few times as we’ve grown, but most of the reasons for why I joined remain the same. There will be a time to celebrate this milestone, but right now there are more important things to focus on...
