The prophecy is finally coming true! Microsoft and Apple have been fumbling their offerings for developers, so now is the perfect time to simply decide to try Linux. It literally takes as little as two minutes to install!! youtube.com/watch?v=GQJZ96…

FYI. Voice memos drive me crazy. They shift all the work from sender to receiver. You hit record and ramble for 3 minutes while I’m stuck listening with no way to skim. You’re trading YOUR efficiency for MY time, and if you keep choosing your convenience over mine, don’t be…
The most valuable use I've found for generative AI so far is helping write small bash scripts - a syntax I've never spent the time to master. I'm starting to build a bit of a collection of small useful tools now, it's great.
Julius Caesar on “doggo” people. There truly is nothing new under the sun lmfao

As a software engineer, it's very important to learn about Gall’s Law, which states that complex systems cannot be created successfully from scratch. In reality, even large systems, such as Netflix, Google, or Facebook, have started small and built incrementally over the…

If I ever give up on computers as a career, it'll be to start a line of home appliances that just have great big knobs, boring-but-reliable internals, and premium utility. Like an old Lexus. Toyota reliability under the hood, lovely leather, and ready to drive a million miles!

Huge respect for the people that manage to get up early to go to the gym before work consistently. I find this aspect harder than the actual workouts and it's not even close
To anyone else infuriated by this change in Android 15, someone has thankfully gone to the effort of reviving the old DnD tile as an open source 3rd party app here: play.google.com/store/apps/det…
Hi @madebygoogle re the recent change to Quick Settings on Pixels that replaces Do Not Disturb with an intermediate Modes menu. When I want to put my phone in DnD mode, I want to do it quickly. Now there are more taps needed. How do I get the DnD quick setting back?

TV shows are like coffee in that it's easy to become accustomed to mediocrity and forget how good they can be. Until you come across a good one again and remember (we're watching Better Call Saul lately).
Life hack that has reliably improved my sleep quality: leaving my phone in another room overnight.
Set up a small home server/NAS last week - a Raspberry Pi 5 running Open Media Vault and NextCloud, with a couple of SSDs in RAID 1. Setting it up was pretty straightforward and enjoyable. Now I wish I'd set one up years ago - we keep finding more and more uses for it.
This was generally my experience too when visiting England. The Cotswolds in particular were charming and beautiful
Leave the cities, and England starts to look pretty appealing.

Embarrassed to admit I didn't know this until growing broccoli in my garden a couple of years ago. It was a bit of an eye-opener to how far the modern person can be removed from where their food comes from.
Broccoli is a flower that is harvested before it blooms. If you leave it alone it will bloom

I found out my wife was cheating on me at a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert and I don’t ever wanna feel like I did that day.
I didn't expect the Wireguard (open source VPN tunnel) app icon to be this badass

With increasing use of gen AI for coding, will any (or nearly as many) libraries be written? And will the ones that are created be optimised for use by AI over humans? E.g. with simpler but more verbose APIs and explicit docs to reduce the chance of error? And will this also make…

Woke up because my AI controlled bed is too cold. Went to adjust temperature and I can’t because the Eight Sleep app is currently broken. Can’t adjust by hand because I have a Pod3, not the upgraded Pod4 with physical controls. Now I am stuck in a cold bed. This feels dystopian.
A pattern you can spot after being in tech long enough: each role at a tech company can go off the rails in their own special way if not kept in check by business/market forces. Us engineers have the pathology of endlessly refactoring and creating bloated, over-complicated…
I am sorry apple fanboys but this is actually terrible and I think you know it
