None of these pictures are mine, happy to give credit if need be. Mainly sharing old newspapers of the history of football in Leeds, Leeds City & Leeds United.

Always like these pictures of Johan Cruyff with Beeston Hill in the background (point of note, I think it’s actually still Windmill Hill at that point, not Beeston Hill).

Leeds United v Tottenham Hotspur at Elland Road, 1972. A 2-1 win for Leeds United, Clarke and Charlton the scorers with a crowd of just under 44,000.

Peter Lorimer, Terry Yorath and Eddie and Frank Gray get lost whilst on a charity walk before having a whip around to pay a farmer £10 to give them a lift back to their cars.

Billy Bremner during the 1974 World Cup.

Elland Road some time around the early 1890s. The pumping station was later bought by Leeds City to expand the Elland Road ground, including rotating the pitch to face north to south as it is today.

Football news from the West Yorkshire League, 1905. Poor dressings at Beeston, referees not turning up, players registered for two clubs and late arrivals for games was all on the agenda.

Elland Road during the 1950’s. Possibly v Spurs in the FA Cup, Jan 1954. So much to take in on this picture and so many questions to be asked.

1904 football results from the various West Yorkshire and Leeds Football Leagues, with a good mix of church and work teams included.

Dewsbury Road & Beeston looking southwards 1948, the Tommy Wass pub bottom left of the picture. Zoom in and Elland Road can just be made out top centre of the picture with the chimneys of the old brick works to the right.

September 1913, over 20,000 spectators watch Leeds City’s 5-1 win over Bradford (Park Avenue).

What a beer mat this is. ❤️🙌

Not seen these pictures before. During the big freeze of 1963, Leeds United played a friendly against Bradford (Park Avenue) at the greyhound stadium on the other side of Elland Road, as featured in the Groundtastic magazine here. Dick Kerrs Ladies also played France there.

Jack Charlton and Rainer Trölitzsch before playing SC Leipzig away, November 1965.

The bright floodlights of Elland Road shinning behind the tower blocks of council flats in Armley, taken from Cardigan Road sometime in the 1970’s.

Leeds United training on Fullerton Park with the old Leeds Greyhound Stadium in the background.

1929 Football Association Rules forbid the playing of football on Sundays. Any person playing a game of football on a Sunday would not be recognised by the Association. Games were played on Christmas Day but players or clubs should not feel compelled to play on this day.
